Qigong for Women (Online)
Qigong is a form of healing exercises from ancient China. This class is designed to keep our organ system healthy, and strengthen our bodies and spirits. After warm ups, we will practice Snake Qigong and Radiant Lotus Qigong for Women, both designed for female bodies. Gentle movement flow and guided qigong meditation will be included. The class can be done sitting in a chair. No previous experience is necessary.

Band Academy (Entering Gr. 6-9)
Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study with highly skilled and energetic instructors and mentors in warmups, performance, improvisation, rhythm work and sectional rehearsals. This camp is not designed for beginners, students must have at least one school year of playing experience in order to register. Please bring your instrument, music books, a snack and a water bottle, daily. Concert will be held at West Woods Upper Elementary School on Friday, June 28th at 11am in the gymnasium.NOTES: Registration deadline: June 2, 2024 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 10 with a $35 fee. There are NO cancellations / refunds after June 10! EXTENDED DAY OPTION: The EXCL Summer Camp is available for children who need before and after childcare that are registered for Band Camp. EXCL is an additional cost and is for Farmington students ONLY. The EXCL Summer Camp is a separate registration! Dreams can come from the conscious, subconscious, or unconscious levels of our mind. They can also be symbolic or prophetic, or a visitation. We will discuss 9 different ways to look at dreams and consider various methods for dream interpretation. No need to bring a dream dictionary, but do bring some dreams to share!

Lights, camera, STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) inspire big ideas, bold action – and creativity. Our skills make it possible to create art and experiences that bring us together, entertain us, and move us. During this session, FIRST® IN SHOW presented by Qualcomm, we will celebrate the roles our STEM skills play in the arts, design, and building of a world of endless possibilities. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. 1 PM - 4 PM Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle! FOOD Explorers No Bake Taster (Gr. 2-4)

Join Food Explorers for this one time course, No Bake Taster! This course is perfect for that student who is interested in cooking and wants to learn some of the basics. The course fee includes the cost of ingredients and supplies. PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for Farmington Public Schools students who are enrolled at West District, Union School, East Farms, and Noah Wallace. You must register at the school that your child attends and where it is offered. Each school's offered classes varies. *** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY*** On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending EXCL for the enrichment course you have signed up for. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending will be sent to EXCL where they will be supervised until the start of the course, and be offered an afternoon snack. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school. Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. FOOD TOUR with Prudence Sloane - A DONG'S SUPERMARKET & VIETNAMESE Luncheon

It's over 30,000 square feet of Chinatown in West Hartford, complete with hanging ducks, live fish, exotic produce and all the ingredients you need to cook Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese. Prudence Sloane will guide you through this most extraordinary supermarket and give you expert advice on how to cook and use many of the products offered. All secrets will be revealed. Afterwards we feast on Vietnamese specialties at Pho Boston next door. Meet at A Dong Supermarket, 160 Shield St, West Hartford. Bring a sweater - the supermarket can get cold! Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)

The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least 1 year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle. Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) From Scratch 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of from scratch cooking! Each day you’ll be making two recipes completely from scratch. We’re talking about homemade tortillas, homemade pasta, homemade naan bread and more. Learn all about complex cooking techniques and skills in this hands-on camp. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle B) Summer Baking Challenge 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Explore advanced baking techniques like homemade dough, homemade pie crust and intricately decorated shortbread cookies. With recipes like Mini Apple Lattice Pies, Strawberry Twists, Pear Cinnamon Rolls and Pizza from scratch, these recipes full of skill building and exploration. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. Have you ever been told that you have a great voice? If so, then this is the course for you! Have you ever wondered how to begin in voice-over part-time, full time, or for supplemental or retirement income? This workshop is a great, upbeat, and most importantly, the realistic first step to explore voice-over. Our easy-to-access remote learning system will take you behind the scenes at Voice Coaches' main studios, where we regularly produce voice-over content for clients including Netflix, Discovery, HGTV, Disney, Lifetime, Nickelodeon, and many more. From audiobooks, training material, animation, and commercials to socially relevant content, television, and much more: today’s voice-over field has become a great way to leverage your individual voice qualities and communication skill in a whole new way. This course also includes an opportunity to receive a brief one-on-one voice range and quality assessment with the instructor. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

Grief's Journey When We Lose a Pet

When we lose a pet, the feelings that come upon us can be confusing and complicated. We feel as if our lives will never return to "normal" and that we will continue to feel the pain or even guilt forever. Very few around us may understand. No one grieves in the same way, and it may cause us to question if what we are feeling is normal. Come learn about the "normal" grief experiences in the areas of emotions, physical "symptoms," social feelings, time frames, and so much more. This class is for anyone going through their own personal grief process as well as those who are supporting others in the process.

Hudson Yards is New York’s newest neighborhood and home to 100 diverse shops and restaurants, significant public art, and plazas. Located between 10th and 12th Avenues from West 30th to West 34th Street, Hudson Yards is the newest developed neighborhood in Manhattan’s West Side. THE EDGE is the highest sky deck in the Western Hemisphere located at 30 Hudson Yards, with a one-of-a-kind design, it’s suspended in mid-air, giving you the feeling of floating in the sky with 360-degree views you can’t get anywhere else. Look 100 stories down from the thrilling glass floor, look out over the city on angled glass walls. Time to explore the upscale shopping & Spanish food market in Hudson Yards. Upon arrival in NYC enjoy a guided walking tour of the High Line, a park created from a former raised railway. The High Line runs up the west side of Manhattan with an entrance near Chelsea Market. Because it is two-stories above street level it offers a unique view of the city. Following our tour of the High Line we’ll have a chance to grab a bite to eat at Chelsea Market. Trip includes motorcoach, entrance fees, and tour director.

Hikes - Nature Walk Series

Join Farmington Continuing Education for 6 moderately paced nature walks on wooded trails in Central and Northern CT. Appreciate nature’s tranquility and subtle gifts while still getting some exercise with the Top 6 Best Nature Walks. Enjoy 2.5 mile, hour and a half, weekly easy walks on Tuesday mornings starting at 8:45am. Any postponement due to weather will be communicated before the hike via email. Good hiking boots and water are essential, and hiking poles are recommended! This make and take hands on workshop is all about creating the most stunning patio pots on the block this Summer. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or new to the world of plants, you'll learn how to create a beautiful display that will knock the socks off your neighbors. We'll start by discussing the best plants for patio pots, including options for both sun and shade. You'll learn how to choose the right color scheme and combination of plants to create a cohesive and eye-catching display. Next, we'll cover the basics of container gardening, including how to properly prepare your pots, how to choose the right soil and fertilizer, and how to maintain your plants throughout the season. You'll also learn how to create different levels of interest in your pot, using both tall and short plants/elements. Finally, we'll discuss the best ways to add finishing touches to your patio pot, such as adding non-plant accents for a touch of magic. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to create a beautiful and unique patio pot. You'll leave with a gorgeous 12" patio pot you created, ready for your season long enjoyment. Hudson Valley Foliage Cruise & Garlic Festival, Saugerties, NY

Celebrate garlic! Located between the picturesque Catskill Mountains and the mighty Hudson River in historic Saugerties, NY - this is the festival to enjoy everything garlic! Visit the garlic marketplace with tons of gourmet garlic; visit the food alley featuring garlic-enhances foods such as sausage, pulled pork, garlic soup, garlic green beans, and even garlic ice cream. Enjoy entertainment (Bluegrass, Cajun, Ragtime, Irish and German music), cooking demonstrations by renowned chefs of the Hudson Valley, instructive garlic growing and braiding talks, and numerous arts and craft vendors. In the afternoon, board the 300 passenger Rip Van Winkle in Kingston, NY for a 2-hour narrated cruise on the Hudson River. See beautiful mansions and lighthouses on this stretch of the river. Intermediate Basket Weaving - Twill Cathead Basket

In this class students will practice weaving a “cathead” shaped bottom while using a 3/3 continuous twill pattern up the sides of the basket. This rattan twill-woven basket measures 10 in across the top, 6 in square on the bottom, and 6 in high. Students will be able to choose which “twill” will be on the outside of their basket. The two ‘versions' of the twill can be seen in the photo provided. Course fee includes supplies

Intermediate French I

This course is for students who have completed the Advanced Beginner Course or 3 years of high school French. Students should have an intermediate low or mid proficiency level in spoken French. This course will continue to hone conversation skills while addressing more advanced grammar topics such as compound tenses, relative pronouns, and direct and indirect objects. The objectives of this course are for you to be able to say that I can: communicate on advanced topics in a variety of tenses. understand detailed conversations, recognize social cues, ask for directions, complete travel plans airport and train station, explore the impact of social media and discuss current events. read detailed texts and listen to a variety of videos and authentic conversations. This course is for students who have completed the Intermediate French I Course of 3 years of high school French. Students will be able to talk about advanced topics of their choosing as well as explore the Art of Conversation in French. Students will be able to use strategies to sustain conversations, ask for and receive information and express opinions about current events, films, and Podcasts (and/or news programs). No textbook is required.
