Arts and Crafts with Mrs. Bastiaanse-Fritch (Gr. 1-4)
A fun opportunity to create works of art using a variety of art media. Students will spend each art class exploring painting, drawing, and more! Each student will have beautiful and exciting pieces to take home at the end of the session.The course fee includes the cost of the supplies.This course has two sections. Grade 1 & 2 is offered on Mondays, and Grade 3 & 4 on Wednesdays. Be sure to choose the correct section for your child's grade level.PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for enrolled students at West District School only.*** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY***On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending EXCL for the enrichment course you have signed up for. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending will be sent to EXCL. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school.Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. To authorize an additional pick-up, please call 860-404-0290 Ext. 7070.Students who are attending EXCL on the day of the course will be dismissed back to EXCL.

Lights, camera, STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) inspire big ideas, bold action – and creativity. Our skills make it possible to create art and experiences that bring us together, entertain us, and move us. During this session, FIRST® IN SHOW presented by Qualcomm, we will celebrate the roles our STEM skills play in the arts, design, and building of a world of endless possibilities. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. 1 PM - 4 PM Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle! Cancellation/Refund Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to July 22th less a $35 fee. ABE, ESL, High School Completion & Citizenship The Farmington Board of Education provides Adult Basic Education (ABE), English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESL), High School Completion (GED, CDP & NEDP), and Citizenship preparation courses are FREE to residents of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Collinsville, Farmington, Harwinton, Simsbury, West Simsbury, Weatogue and Unionville. HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION Three Pathways to Earn Your Diploma . . . 1. General Education Development (GED®) Adults who have not completed high school must demonstrate, through a four-part examination that includes a writing sample, the attainment of academic skills and concepts normally acquired through completion of a high school program. Test-takers must be at least 17 years old and submit documentation that they have been officially withdrawn from a CT school for at least six months. Individuals who pass the GED® Tests are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. GED® instructional and preparation programs are provided throughout the State and in local school districts to help individuals to prepare for this rigorous examination. Other helpful links: GED Student Handbook Passing the Test - Your Guide to Success The GED® Preparation Program GED® preparation classes prepare a student to take the state-sponsored GED® Examination to earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. The GED® diploma is based upon passing this examination, not earning credits. GED® classes provide individualized instruction for each of the four content areas of the exam - language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These content areas will measure a foundational core of knowledge and skills that are essential for college and career readiness. The minimum age for enrollment in adult education is 17 years of age. Students must document school withdrawal with parental permission. Credit Diploma Program (CDP) - For motivated, independent learners with a busy work schedule who have 4-7 credits left to earn a diploma. Made up of a combination of teacher-led courses and an internet-based high school curriculum. All classroom work is being conducted remotely via Zoom, and The Next Street has over 30 Zoom classes being held each day! Students can join any class schedule and, once enrolled, can take these classes at any time, in any order. Driving Lessons and License Tests are being completed with significant health and sanitation requirements in place.
