Arts and Crafts with Mrs. Bastiaanse-Fritch (Gr. 1-4)
A fun opportunity to create works of art using a variety of art media. Students will spend each art class exploring painting, drawing, and more! Each student will have beautiful and exciting pieces to take home at the end of the session.The course fee includes the cost of the supplies.This course has two sections. Grade 1 & 2 is offered on Mondays, and Grade 3 & 4 on Wednesdays. Be sure to choose the correct section for your child's grade level.PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for enrolled students at West District School only.*** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY***On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending EXCL for the enrichment course you have signed up for. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending will be sent to EXCL. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school.Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. To authorize an additional pick-up, please call 860-404-0290 Ext. 7070.Students who are attending EXCL on the day of the course will be dismissed back to EXCL.

Gentle Essentrics III: Ready For Summer!
Stretching and Strengthening will help you to enjoy all your favorite summer activities with ease! Core strengthening for golf, Flexiblity for gardening, Strength for hiking, walking, biking. Loosen and hydrate connective tissue and increase pliability of ligaments and tendons. Be free to celebrate the summer pain free! Inviting men and women of all fitness levels to a class taught by Gene and Debbie. Gentle Essentrics is a stretch and strengthen 45-minute workout designed to increase your energy and flexibility, loosen and hydrate fascia, decompress your joints, and release tension through relaxation and respectful exercise. Great for men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Videos are available at youtube.com or at the bottom of our website page: “essentricswithdebbieandgene.com".**Classes that take place at the Farmington First Church of Christ location are held in the lower level of the Porter Memorial Building next to the church. The door is accessable from both Church Street and School Street.**** You do not need to attend Gentle Essentrics I or II to attend Gentle Essentrics III**

This is a credit recovery course designed for FHS students who earned a 50% or higher final average in the following English courses taught at FHS: English 100H, English 200H, American Literature H, American Studies, and all of the senior English class offerings. In this course, students will be provided additional time to practice essential learning skills in order to meet the required English graduation standards. Students will receive targeted instruction and support in a personalized setting. Successful completion of the course will be determined based on the student’s demonstration of mastery of the requisite standards and will result in the student earning credit for the course. The class will be taught remotely. Login instructions will be emailed to registrants before the start of class. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students ONLY.

FIRST® LEGO® League Summer Program (Gr. 1-4)
Youth Enrichment
Lights, camera, STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) inspire big ideas, bold action – and creativity. Our skills make it possible to create art and experiences that bring us together, entertain us, and move us. During this session, FIRST® IN SHOW presented by Qualcomm, we will celebrate the roles our STEM skills play in the arts, design, and building of a world of endless possibilities. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. 1 PM - 4 PM Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle! FOOD TOUR with Prudence Sloane - A DONG'S SUPERMARKET & VIETNAMESE Luncheon
Cooking
It's over 30,000 square feet of Chinatown in West Hartford, complete with hanging ducks, live fish, exotic produce and all the ingredients you need to cook Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese. Prudence Sloane will guide you through this most extraordinary supermarket and give you expert advice on how to cook and use many of the products offered. All secrets will be revealed. Afterwards we feast on Vietnamese specialties at Pho Boston next door. Meet at A Dong Supermarket, 160 Shield St, West Hartford. Bring a sweater - the supermarket can get cold! Food allergies and dietary restrictions (shrimp, pork, chicken, beef) must be noted upon registering. Tour includes lunch, tax and gratuities. ~ Cash bar/beverages ~

Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)
Youth Enrichment
The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least 1 year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle. Sample Daily Schedule: 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM Small Group Instrument Lessons 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM Note-Reading Group Class 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM Visual Arts 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM Orchestra Rehearsal 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM Physical Education NOTES: Registration deadline: June 30, 2024 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to July 1 less a $35 fee. The purpose of this course is to provide a space for students to work through the Next Generation Personal Finance standards which include banking, credit, budgeting, investment, taxes and consumer skills. Successful completion fulfills the CT graduation requirement for a 0.5 credit in Financial Literacy. Enrollment is on a space-available basis.The class will be taught remotely. Login instructions will be emailed to registrants before the start of class. This course is open to FARMINGTON High School students entering grades 9 or 10 ONLY. Dates: June 25 - July 19 (no class on July 4 or 5), 8:30 AM to 12 Noon, 17 sessions.

Food Explorers Summer Program (Gr. 3-6)
Youth Enrichment
Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) From Scratch 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of from scratch cooking! Each day you’ll be making two recipes completely from scratch. We’re talking about homemade tortillas, homemade pasta, homemade naan bread and more. Learn all about complex cooking techniques and skills in this hands-on camp. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle B) Summer Baking Challenge 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Explore advanced baking techniques like homemade dough, homemade pie crust and intricately decorated shortbread cookies. With recipes like Mini Apple Lattice Pies, Strawberry Twists, Pear Cinnamon Rolls and Pizza from scratch, these recipes full of skill building and exploration. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. A lunch is not necessary as students will be eating what they make. If you would like to supplement the food provided, please have your child bring a lunch. Have you ever been told that you have a great voice? If so, then this is the course for you! Have you ever wondered how to begin in voice-over part-time, full time, or for supplemental or retirement income? This workshop is a great, upbeat, and most importantly, the realistic first step to explore voice-over. Our easy-to-access remote learning system will take you behind the scenes at Voice Coaches' main studios, where we regularly produce voice-over content for clients including Netflix, Discovery, HGTV, Disney, Lifetime, Nickelodeon, and many more. From audiobooks, training material, animation, and commercials to socially relevant content, television, and much more: today’s voice-over field has become a great way to leverage your individual voice qualities and communication skill in a whole new way. This course also includes an opportunity to receive a brief one-on-one voice range and quality assessment with the instructor. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

No one grieves in the same way, and it may cause us to question if what we are feeling is normal. Come learn about the "normal" grief experiences in the areas of emotions, physical "symptoms," social feelings, time frames, and so much more. This class is for anyone going through their own personal grief process as well as those who are supporting others in the process.
