    ABE, ESL, High School Completion & Citizenship The Farmington Board of Education provides Adult Basic Education (ABE), English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESL), High School Completion (GED, CDP & NEDP), and Citizenship preparation courses are FREE to residents of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Collinsville, Farmington, Harwinton, Simsbury, West Simsbury, Weatogue and Unionville. General Education Development (GED®) Adults who have not completed high school must demonstrate, through a four-part examination that includes a writing sample, the attainment of academic skills and concepts normally acquired through completion of a high school program. Test-takers must be at least 17 years old and submit documentation that they have been officially withdrawn from a CT school for at least six months. Individuals who pass the GED® Tests are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. GED® instructional and preparation programs are provided throughout the State and in local school districts to help individuals to prepare for this rigorous examination. Other helpful links: GED Student Handbook Passing the Test - Your Guide to Success The GED® Preparation Program GED® preparation classes prepare a student to take the state-sponsored GED® Examination to earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. The GED® diploma is based upon passing this examination, not earning credits. GED® classes provide individualized instruction for each of the four content areas of the exam - language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These content areas will measure a foundational core of knowledge and skills that are essential for college and career readiness. The minimum age for enrollment in adult education is 17 years of age. Students must document school withdrawal with parental permission. All work is done in a non-traditional, one-to-one virtual setting. NEDP is offered through West Hartford Continuing Education. Call (860) 561-6900. 3. Credit Diploma Program (CDP) - For motivated, independent learners with a busy work schedule who have 4-7 credits left to earn a diploma. Made up of a combination of teacher-led courses and an internet-based high school curriculum. Earn credits through independent study projects, community service, work experience, or vocational training. CDP is offered through Bristol Adult Education. Call (860) 584-7865. ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED Learn to speak, read, and write English with a focus on skills needed in everyday life. Both day and evening courses will be offered at three levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). Registration is required for ALL new and returning students. S. history and government, reading, and writing skills. February 5 - May 6, (M) from 6-8 PM at Farmington High School ADULT BASIC EDUCATION CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED For adults who want to learn basic reading, writing, and math skills. You will improve your life skills and can prepare to enter a high school completion program. January 22 - May 8, (M/W) from 6-8:30 PM at Farmington High School. Farmington Continuing Education complies with CT General Statutes Sec 10-71c. All mandated programs are free. We do not charge a fee for any textbooks or materials used in the classroom.   • The Next Street Drivers Education

    Farmington Continuing Education has partnered with The Next Street to provide you with a wide selection of Drivers Education courses. All classroom work is being conducted remotely via Zoom, and The Next Street has over 30 Zoom classes being held each day! Students can join any class schedule and, once enrolled, can take these classes at any time, in any order. Driving Lessons and License Tests are being completed with significant health and sanitation requirements in place. The Next Street is a family-owned, family-operated driving school with several locations around Connecticut. They have built their business by focusing on fanatical customer service and making the process of getting your driver's license in Connecticut fun, easy, and stress-free. Learn and collaborate with experts in their fields, right from your home or office! UGotClass instructors log in to the classroom regularly to chat with you in the discussion area, post-audio-visual presentations and provide you with helpful readings. With options for courses and certificate programs in categories such as Business, Business Communication, Human Resources, Leadership, Management, New Media Marketing, Social Media for Business, Technology Skills, Training and Education, and Training for K–12 Teachers - there’s something for everyone! With more than 100 online course topics and 30 certificate programs, you should have no problem finding a course to fit your needs today! It is easy to participate in an online course.... After you register, you will receive an email with a web address to your online classroom. You will create a password and use your email address and password to gain access. The online classroom is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are no live real-time requirements or meetings, so you decide when you participate. The content (readings, audio lectures, slides) and self-quizzes are accessible for the entire course, so you can work ahead, or go back and review again, at your convenience.
