Band Academy (Entering Gr. 6-9)
Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study with highly skilled and energetic instructors and mentors in warmups, performance, improvisation, rhythm work and sectional rehearsals. This camp is not designed for beginners, students must have at least one school year of playing experience in order to register. Please bring your instrument, music books, a snack and a water bottle, daily. Concert will be held at West Woods Upper Elementary School on Friday, June 28th at 11am in the gymnasium.NOTES: Registration deadline: June 2, 2024 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 10 with a $35 fee. There are NO cancellations / refunds after June 10! EXTENDED DAY OPTION: The EXCL Summer Camp is available for children who need before and after childcare that are registered for Band Camp. EXCL is an additional cost and is for Farmington students ONLY. The EXCL Summer Camp is a separate registration! You MUST complete the EXCL Registration Form and return it, along with any required documents and payment, to the EXCL Office (1 Depot Place in Unionville, CT). Space is limited so register early! AAPPL Online Assessment - Seal of Biliteracy (SPANISH)
Only available for FHS students in Spanish V or VH.THIS IS A REMOTELY PROCTORED ONLINE TEST and must be completed between April 12 and April 22. Registration closes April 1. More instructions and login information will be emailed to students a few days prior to the test. Review the AAPPL Computer Proctoring Student Guide for more information! What is AAPPL? AAPPL is the ACTFL (American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages) Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages. It is a performance assessment of language learning designed for educational settings. AAPPL assesses the three modes of communication: Interpersonal Listening/Speaking, Presentational Writing, Interpretive Listening, and Interpretive Reading. The AAPPL is an online interactive assessment. It uses communication media in which test takers perform tasks such as participating in a virtual video chat, creating wikis, emailing, and using apps to demonstrate language ability. The measure is scored by professional raters using the ACTFL Proficiency Scale. Students who score at or above the Intermediate Mid level of proficiency on this test meet the World Language criteria for Connecticut’s Seal of Biliteracy.

ABE, ESL, High School Completion & Citizenship The Farmington Board of Education provides Adult Basic Education (ABE), English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESL), High School Completion (GED, CDP & NEDP), and Citizenship preparation courses are FREE to residents of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Collinsville, Farmington, Harwinton, Simsbury, West Simsbury, Weatogue and Unionville. WINTER/SPRING 2024 SCHEDULE Childcare is available in the evening ONLY for children who are 4 years and older and toilet-trained!! HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION Three Pathways to Earn Your Diploma . . . 1. General Education Development (GED®) Adults who have not completed high school must demonstrate, through a four-part examination that includes a writing sample, the attainment of academic skills and concepts normally acquired through completion of a high school program. Test-takers must be at least 17 years old and submit documentation that they have been officially withdrawn from a CT school for at least six months. Individuals who pass the GED® Tests are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. GED® instructional and preparation programs are provided throughout the State and in local school districts to help individuals to prepare for this rigorous examination. Other helpful links: GED Student Handbook Passing the Test - Your Guide to Success The GED® Preparation Program GED® preparation classes prepare a student to take the state-sponsored GED® Examination to earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. The GED® diploma is based upon passing this examination, not earning credits. GED® classes provide individualized instruction for each of the four content areas of the exam - language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These content areas will measure a foundational core of knowledge and skills that are essential for college and career readiness. The minimum age for enrollment in adult education is 17 years of age. Students must document school withdrawal with parental permission. Credit Diploma Program (CDP) - For motivated, independent learners with a busy work schedule who have 4-7 credits left to earn a diploma. Made up of a combination of teacher-led courses and an internet-based high school curriculum. S. history and government, reading, and writing skills. February 5 - May 6, (M) from 6-8 PM at Farmington High School ADULT BASIC EDUCATION CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED For adults who want to learn basic reading, writing, and math skills. You will improve your life skills and can prepare to enter a high school completion program. January 22 - May 8, (M/W) from 6-8:30 PM at Farmington High School. All classroom work is being conducted remotely via Zoom, and The Next Street has over 30 Zoom classes being held each day! Students can join any class schedule and, once enrolled, can take these classes at any time, in any order. Driving Lessons and License Tests are being completed with significant health and sanitation requirements in place.
