    Artistic Creations with Mrs. Donlon (Gr. 1-4)

    A fun opportunity to create works of art using a variety of art media. Students will spend each art class exploring painting, drawing, and more! Each student will have beautiful and exciting pieces to take home at the end of the session. The course fee includes the cost of the supplies. This course has several sections. Please view the dates and register for the correct section according to grade. PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for enrolled students at East Farms Elementary School only. *** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY*** On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending this program after school. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending may be sent to EXCL until the time of the program starts. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school. Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. To authorize an additional pick-up, please call 860-404-0290 Ext. 7070. Students who are attending EXCL on the day of the course will be dismissed back to EXCL.
  • Babysitter CPR and Beyond! (Ages 11-15)

    Learn essential skills to handle medical emergencies with confidence. Topics include infant and child CPR, basic first aid, and assessing situations before calling 911. This course prepares youth to respond quickly and safely in critical moments. Prerequisite: Students should either be certified babysitters or have taken the Babysitting Basics course. The course fee includes an American Red Cross babysitter training book and a certificate that is mailed out within a month of successful completion of the course (student attendance is mandatory to receive a certificate). No snacks or food is to be brought to the class.

    Learn to be a responsible and confident babysitter with guidance from an American Red Cross instructor. Cover essential skills such as supervising children, accident prevention, first aid, caring for infants, and handling emergencies. Build practical knowledge that ensures safety, care, and confidence—helping you provide the best service for the children and families you care for. The course fee includes an American Red Cross babysitter training book and a certificate that is mailed out within a month of successful completion of the course (student attendance is mandatory to receive a certificate). *This course is a prerequisite for the Babysitter CPR & Beyond course. No snacks or food is to be brought to the class.
  • Beginner 1 Crochet with Mrs. O'Shea (Gr. 3-4)

    Crochet for Beginners: Grades 3 & 4 Get ready to stitch, loop, and create! This hands-on class teaches the basics of crocheting through fun, small-scale projects like bookmarks. Duration: Five weekly one-hour sessions. What you'll learn: Simple stitches, pattern reading basics, and project completion. What’s included: A starter crochet kit and all the yarn needed to succeed. No experience is necessary—just bring your creativity!
  • Beginner 2 Crochet extension with Mrs. O'Shea (Gr. 3-4)

    We are excited to offer a Beginner 2 Crochet extension for East Farms students! This morning program is the perfect next step for students who successfully completed the Beginner 1 course in the fall. In this session, we will move beyond the basics to focus on smaller, manageable projects. Students will refine their tension and stitch work while making items like bookmarks, small pouches, or simple amigurumi shapes. Class Details: Prerequisite: Must have taken Beginner 1 in the Fall. Materials: All yarn for projects is provided. Schedule: 5 Morning sessions (Before school). Focus: Small-scale items and pattern reading.
  • Chemistry For Kids (ages 5-8)

    Put on your goggles and lab coats for this exciting, hands-on class! Kids Corner CT introduces young chemists to safe chemical mixtures, atoms, acids, molecules, electrons, metals, and elements from the periodic table. Children will discover how everyday foods and popular items are created, and how materials are purified or transformed. We’ll showcase fun experiments right before their eyes and use interactive digital tools to bring faraway chemical processes “alive.” Join us as we explore, experiment, and discover together. Please note that the dates of this class have been changed and the dates printed in our catalog are no longer correct. (This course will begin on March 9th instead of March 16th.) The course fee includes the cost of supplies.
  • FOOD Explorers No Bake Taster (Gr. 1-3)

    This course is perfect for that student who is interested in cooking and wants to learn some of the basics. Join Food Explorers for a spring taster class! You’ll be making Peach Melba Crumbles, with a fruity filling of peaches and raspberries, a sweet toasted oat crumble topping and homemade whipped cream. Recipe is nut free but will contain dairy and gluten. The course fee includes the cost of ingredients and supplies. PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for Farmington Public Schools students who are enrolled at West District, Union School, East Farms, and Noah Wallace. You must register at the school that your child attends and where it is offered.     Food Explorers: Chocolate and Spring Baking

    Join Food Explorers for delicious treats in our ever popular seasonal baking series. Session A: Chocolate Baking (4 weeks): Calling all young chocolate lovers! In this sweet and hands-on After-School Baking Class, kids will dive into the delicious world of chocolate—learning how to bake their own chocolatey treats from scratch! You’ll be making: Chocolate Banana Cakes, Oreo Whoopie Pies, Chocolate Chip Cookie Pies, and Mocha Cakes. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten. Session B: Spring Baking (4 weeks): Get ready to whisk into spring with Food Explorers! In this fun, hands-on class, young bakers will make cheerful, seasonal treats that celebrate the flavors of spring. You’ll be making: Raspberry Vanilla Whoopie Pies, Lemon Blueberry Cookies, Carrot Cake Mini Donuts, and Honey Cakes. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten.     Students will use the mBots car and learn how to program the car to go through a maze, play a song, or follow lights. Using the platform scratch developed by MIT and block coding - create advanced games such as a solar system, Mario platformer, and much more! Learn about loops, variables, x and y coordinates, if and then statements, and more! Come join the fun. For ages 7+ only please.     Using the Minecraft Education Edition students will solve code and go through lesson plans such as planets, pandas, and more.     Learn the fastest growing language out right now, used by Google, Instagram, and Netflix! Learn how to draw shapes and create designs using the turtle library. Learn about if then statements, loops, variables, and more. Students will also learn about various Artificial Intelligence platforms and how they can use those platforms to create photos, videos, or train a car to go through a maze. Come join the fun!   • When I Am In Charge (Ages 8+)

    Help your child stay safe and confident when home alone. Taught by an American Red Cross instructor, this course covers essential skills for youth, including responsibilities, arriving home safely, phone and internet safety, fire safety, and more. Your child will gain the knowledge and confidence to handle common situations independently and responsibly. Students will receive an information packet to take home. No snacks or food are to be brought to the class.
