Students will participate in an 8-session multicultural visual and performing arts program through a mix of virtual learning and onsite activities at Farmington High School (FHS). In addition, students will participate in a field trip to a local museum. Activities will include drawing and painting, puppetry, creative writing, digital technology, and cultural studies. Cultural Studies include participation in dance and music traditions, such as Chinese string instrumentation, African/Chinese drumming, and Latin/Caribbean rhythms, from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, which have impacted our cultural traditions. Classes are taught by certified teachers and professional artists. Parents are invited to share their child's experience during a closing virtual presentation on December 11. Transportation will be provided to/from Rawson Elementary School (Hartford), Vance Elementary School (New Britain), and Wheeler Elementary School (Plainville) - final times TBD! Dates Virtual 10/16, 12/4, 12/11 Onsite @ FHS 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20 Supplies are included and will be distributed to students during the onsite sessions at Farmington High School. Internet access and a computer or Chromebook with a camera and microphone are required for each participating student. Instruction during virtual sessions will take place through Zoom. Students will receive an email containing a link and schedule before the start of the program. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is made possible through funding awarded by the CT State Department of Education along with the support of the Farmington, Hartford, New Britain, and Plainville Public Schools.
