  • Band Academy (Entering Gr. 6-9)

    Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study with highly skilled and energetic instructors and mentors in warmups, performance, improvisation, rhythm work and sectional rehearsals. This camp is not designed for beginners, students must have at least one school year of playing experience in order to register. Please bring your instrument, music books, a snack and a water bottle, daily. Concert will be held at West Woods Upper Elementary School on Friday, June 28th at 11am in the gymnasium. NOTES: Registration deadline: June 2, 2024 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 10 with a $35 fee. There are NO cancellations / refunds after June 10! EXTENDED DAY OPTION: The EXCL Summer Camp is available for children who need before and after childcare that are registered for Band Camp. EXCL is an additional cost and is for Farmington students ONLY. The EXCL Summer Camp is a separate registration! You MUST complete the EXCL Registration Form and return it, along with any required documents and payment, to the EXCL Office (1 Depot Place in Unionville, CT). Space is limited so register early!   • FIRST® LEGO® League Summer Program (Gr. 1-4)

    Lights, camera, STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) inspire big ideas, bold action – and creativity. Our skills make it possible to create art and experiences that bring us together, entertain us, and move us. During this session, FIRST® IN SHOW presented by Qualcomm, we will celebrate the roles our STEM skills play in the arts, design, and building of a world of endless possibilities. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. 1 PM - 4 PM Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle!   • Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)

    The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least 1 year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle.   • Food Explorers Summer Program (Gr. 3-6)

    Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) From Scratch 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of from scratch cooking! Each day you’ll be making two recipes completely from scratch. We’re talking about homemade tortillas, homemade pasta, homemade naan bread and more. Learn all about complex cooking techniques and skills in this hands-on camp. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle B) Summer Baking Challenge 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Explore advanced baking techniques like homemade dough, homemade pie crust and intricately decorated shortbread cookies. With recipes like Mini Apple Lattice Pies, Strawberry Twists, Pear Cinnamon Rolls and Pizza from scratch, these recipes full of skill building and exploration. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. A lunch is not necessary as students will be eating what they make. If you would like to supplement the food provided, please have your child bring a lunch.   • Theatre Academy (Gr. 3 -12)

    Beginning with an audition workshop, students will hone their audition skills to try out for roles in Disney's Newsies Jr. Each day, students will participate in rehearsals including music, choreography, improv and drama games, backstage production, and most importantly -- FUN! The FINAL performance will take place on Friday, June 28 in the Irving Robbins Middle School Auditorium. Opportunity for rising (7-12) graders: Students with a serious interest in the "behind-the-scenes" portion of theatre will work with mentors in the areas of stage management, directing, costumes, props, and set design. These students will not perform in the play but instead will be working backstage as part of the production. Students should bring a healthy snack, a healthy lunch, and a water bottle daily.
