FOOD Explorers No Bake Taster (Gr. 2-4)
Cooking
This course is perfect for that student who is interested in cooking and wants to learn some of the basics. Join Food Explorers for a delightful dessert class where you'll learn to make a refreshing Strawberry Lemonade Pie! This no-bake treat combines the perfect balance of sweet strawberries and tangy lemon in a graham cracker crust. Come enjoy a fun, hands-on experience and leave with a delicious personal pie! All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten. The course fee includes the cost of ingredients and supplies. PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for Farmington Public Schools students who are enrolled at West District, Union School, East Farms, and Noah Wallace. You must register at the school that your child attends and where it is offered. Each school's offered classes varies. *** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY*** On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending EXCL for the enrichment course you have signed up for. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending will be sent to EXCL where they will be supervised until the start of the course, and be offered an afternoon snack. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school. Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. To authorize an additional pick-up, please call 860-404-0290 Ext. 7070. Students who are attending EXCL on the day of the course will be dismissed back to EXCL.

FOOD TOUR with Prudence Sloane - A DONG'S SUPERMARKET & VIETNAMESE Luncheon

A Dong Supermarket is over 30,000 square feet of Chinatown in West Hartford, complete with hanging ducks, live fish, exotic produce and all the ingredients you need to cook Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese. Prudence Sloane will guide you through this most extraordinary supermarket and give you expert advice on how to cook and use many of the products offered. All secrets will be revealed. Afterwards we feast on Vietnamese specialties at Pho Boston next door. We will meet at Cha Papi, next to A Dong's Supermarket, between 9:30 am and 10 am.Cha Papi is an Asian coffee shop with wonderful rice donuts and amazing coffee (not included on tour). Bring a sweater - the supermarket can get cold. Food allergies and dietary restrictions (shrimp, pork, chicken, beef) must be noted upon registering. The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least one year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle. Successful completion fulfills the CT graduation requirement for a 0.5 credit in Financial Literacy. Enrollment is on a space-available basis. The class will be taught remotely. Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) Farmers Market Fresh: Seasonal Baking 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of fresh and seasonal baking recipes! Each day, you will be making two brand new recipes featuring produce that is in season this summer, such as peach upside down cakes, tomato galettes, mixed berry shortcakes, and apricot rolls. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, egg, and gluten. Students should bring a water bottle B) Chocolate Week 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a chocolatey week exploring doughs, batters, and more. Each day, you will make two recipes featuring your favorite ingredient... chocolate! We will be making "from scratch" pop-tarts, chocolate fudge buns, chocolate lattice pies, and layer cake. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, egg, and gluten. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. The purpose of this credit recovery course is to give students one-on-one assistance in developing the skills necessary to pass the Farmington Language Standards Test. Meeting the standard on this test is an FHS graduation requirement. Enrollment is open to eligible FHS students who have been recommended for this course by their high school language teacher. This is a remedial course for Farmington High School students only.

Gentle Essentrics is a full-body stretching and strengthening program which rebalances the body enabling our full range of motion so that we can enjoy the activities we love. A gentle full-body workout that simultaneously combines stretching and strengthening while engaging all your muscles. Experience a deep activation stretch that will work through all the joints and release tight muscles. Effective for flexibility, mobility and pain-relief, as well as injury prevention and recovery. Bring a mat, towel, and waterbottle. **Classes that take place at the Farmington First Church of Christ location are held in the lower level of the Porter Memorial Building next to the church. The door is accessible from both Church Street and School Street.**

From audio books to advertisements and beyond, we encounter recorded voices everywhere! In this one-night, live online class, your instructor will take you behind-the-scenes in the voice over field for a fun and realistic look at how the voice over field really works. You’ll gain inside perspective on developing skills, and how to leverage your voice's strengths and interests, and more. Because this class is live, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions! Additionally, there will be a chance for a one on one script read. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

Health, Physical Education and Wellness Credit Recovery
FHS Credit Recovery & For Credit Courses
The purpose of this credit recovery course is to provide more time and assistance for those students who did not achieve course standards in Wellness 9, 10, or 11 curricula during the regular school year. Students will complete individualized units of study for credit. Successful completion fulfills the required credit for graduation in the selected class. Enrollment is open to FHS students who achieved at least a 50% final average in Wellness 9, 10, or 11. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students only.

Hikes - Nature Walk Series

Join Farmington Continuing Education for 6 moderately paced nature walks on wooded trails in Central and Northern CT. Appreciate nature’s tranquility and subtle gifts while still getting some exercise with the Top 6 Best Nature Walks. Enjoy 2.5 mile, hour and a half, weekly easy walks on Tuesday mornings starting at 8:45am. Any postponement due to weather will be communicated before the hike via email. Good hiking boots and water are essential, and hiking poles are recommended! We'll start by discussing the best plants for patio pots, including options for both sun and shade. You'll learn how to choose the right color scheme and combination of plants to create a cohesive and eye-catching display. Next, we'll cover the basics of container gardening, including how to properly prepare your pots, how to choose the right soil and fertilizer, and how to maintain your plants throughout the season. You'll also learn how to create different levels of interest in your pot, using both tall and short plants/elements. For students who have already taken the Adult Tap For Beginners course or have previous tap dance experience. Adult Tap offers the opportunity to exercise in the unique and fun way. We will start with a gentle stretch and then work on a different tap combination each week. Any form of dance is healthy for the mind and body. It gets our bodies moving and boosts our brainpower. If so, then you could have what it takes to begin working as a professional Voiceover Artist. Lawn Bowling is a friendly sport suitable for all ages and physical abilities. The social aspects of the game are well suited to a relaxed atmosphere and a camaraderie among bowlers. Learn new skills and get outdoors to meet new people. Students should wear flat-soled shoes - sneakers are suitable! The trainers will provide bowls. In the event of inclement weather (rain or drizzle) the course will still take place however, activity on the green will be limited and instruction will continue at the club indoors and on the porch. Lower Farmington River with Main Stream Canoes & Kayaks

Join Main Stream Canoe and Kayak for a wonderful local experience that gave the Farmington River Valley its namesake. In either a kayak or canoe, and guided by one of Main Stream's river guides, Embark on a serene and scenic journey along the Farmington River, perfect for paddlers of any skill level. Whether you're a seasoned kayaker or a first-time canoe enthusiast, this slow-paced adventure offers the perfect opportunity to connect with nature. Starting at Fisher Meadows in Avon and meandering through Simsbury, you’ll be guided along a smooth current, surrounded by a breathtaking canopy of trees. Enjoy tranquil stops to take in the views and spot local wildlife. This leisurely outing is ideal for families, friends, or anyone seeking a peaceful escape in nature. Meeting time is 1:00 PM in a TBD location along the river in Avon. The trip will take approximately 2 hours. Each person over 18 years old will need a waiver signed. Any person under 18 will need a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. You can print and sign the waiver using the link below, or you can sign a waiver at time of arrival. Math Credit Recovery
FHS Credit Recovery & For Credit Courses
Math - FHS students needing math credit recovery in Geometry, Algebra 2A, or Algebra 2B who earned at least a 50% in one of these courses are eligible for this course. The descriptions for each course are listed below. Note: Students who need credit recovery in both Geometry and Algebra 2A are not eligible for this course and will need to enroll in both courses during the next school year. This course is not to be used to recover credit in Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. Geometry - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2A and Algebra 2B, such as right triangle trigonometry and properties of circles. Algebra 2A - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2B, such as transforming parent functions and solving nonlinear equations. Algebra 2B - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in future math electives, such as transforming functions, solving nonlinear functions, systems of equations and inequalities, and foundations of trigonometry. Students who complete Algebra 2B summer school successfully may not be fully prepared to move on to Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students only.
