Nancy Kalos

Instructor

Nancy's basket weaving journey began over 30 years ago. Her first introduction to this craft was at Wesleyan Potters in Middletown where she was fortunate to be taught by two wonderful teachers, Manon Lu Christ and Sosse Baker. From there Nancy attended annual conferences in Stowe, VT, and Raleigh, NC where many seasoned instructors from across the country gathered for a week. Over the next 20+ years, she was introduced to a wide range of basketry including styles such as Shaker and Nantucket and learned to weave with materials such as paper, wire, bark, gourds, pine needles, and willow, in addition to traditional round and flat reed.

More recently Nancy attended the John Campbell Folk School for a week and learned how to make an oak basket by splitting a log and carving the weavers, rim, and handle. She has been instructed by several remarkable teachers including Flo Hoppe, Diane Stanton, Eric Taylor, Wendy Jensen, Patti Hawkins, Judy Olney, and Kathy Tessler, just to name a few.
