BollyX: Dance Fitness
BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with the hottest music from around the world. Its 45 minute cardio workout cycles between higher and lower-intensity dance sequences to get you moving, sweating, and smiling. At the very core of a BollyX workout is the inspiration it draws from the music and dance of Bollywood, the film industry of India. BollyX embodies the infectious energy, expression and movement of Bollywood and aim to expand the reach of fitness to more people worldwide. The fitness curriculum has been created by world-class choreographers and certified fitness professionals to ensure a safe and effective total body dance workout for all. No prior dance experience is needed. All you need to bring is water and your biggest smile. You’re in for a sweaty treat.

Adult Tap for Beginners
Music, Dance & Drama
Beginner Tap offers the opportunity to exercise in the unique and fun way. We will start with a gentle stretch and then work on a different tap combination each week. If you are completely new to tap dancing, please sign up for our Introduction to Tap course. Any form of dance is healthy for the mind and body. It gets our bodies moving and boosts our brainpower. Participating in a dance class is also great for socialization. Wear comfortable clothing and do not forget your tap shoes! Don’t have tap shoes but want to experience the course? We may have a gently used pair that you can purchase. Due to weather cancellations, the start date of this course may differ from the date listed in our catalog.

Beginner Jazz Dance
Music, Dance & Drama
From Liz Minnelli to Lady Gaga, from the Broadway boards to halftime at the Super Bowl, jazz dance steps sashay their way into all kinds of choreography. Jazz dance is exuberant, expressive and excellent exercise for both the body and the brain. In this class, you'll learn the basics of jazz dancing with FCE veteran dance and wellness instructor Amy Perales in a fun and non-judgemental atmosphere. We will learn basic jazz dance terminology and steps, putting those to music and building a routine from week to week. Wear clothes that you can move comfortably in. Jazz dance shoes are not necessary, but are recommended for a more authentic experience.

How to Play Piano by Ear
Music, Dance & Drama
Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing-all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, and free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended. Fee includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and an optional monthly question and answer session. Class is held online using zoom. Topics include: How to find the starting note How to determine when chords change How to predict the chord progression How chords help you find the correct melody How the melody helps you find the correct chords How to learn songs from recordings How to transpose The Universal Key Signature How to use the Circle of Fifths How to recognize the most common chord patterns Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course. Course fee includes Chords are Key for Piano book and videos (electronic copy). Students should have a keyboard or piano available.

Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People

In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Fee includes the online book, online follow up lessons, a recording of the class and also an optional periodic question and answer session. Class is held online using zoom and is partly hands on instruction and partly lecture/demonstration. For ages 13+. Students will need to have their acoustic guitar on hand. Course fee includes Chords are Key for Guitar book and videos (electronic copy). Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

Class is held online using zoom and is partly hands on instruction and partly lecture demonstration. Course fee includes Chords are Key for Piano book and videos (electronic copy). Students should have a keyboard or piano available. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Class is online using zoom and is partly hands on and partly lecture/demonstration. For ages 13+. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Adult Tap combines exercise, rhythm, and fun. Each session begins with a gentle stretch, followed by a new tap combination weekly. Dancing boosts both body and mind while offering a social, energetic environment. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your tap shoes. Don’t have tap shoes, but want to experience the course? Gently used pairs may be available for purchase if needed. For students who have already taken the Adult Tap For Beginners course or have previous tap dance experience. Learn basic steps, rhythms, and combinations in a fun, supportive environment—no experience required! Wear comfortable clothing and bring your tap shoes. Don’t have a pair yet?
