ASTRONOMY 101: Planetarium Experience
Personal Enrichment
This is for stargazers and those who like to ponder the mysteries of the universe. Using the planetarium, this program for adults will present an introduction to planetary, stellar, and galactic astronomy as well as introduce a basic understanding of our night sky and the many celestial objects found within. On offer are four great informative, 2-hour long sessions on a variety of astronomy topics. All shows are on Thursdays from 7-9. Session A: The Electromagnetic Spectrum - Thursday, September 25 - Visible light isn't the only way of seeing the night sky. There's a whole spectrum of light, mostly invisible to the human eye. In this class, you will learn about the different wavelengths of light along the spectrum, from radio and microwaves to X-rays and gamma rays. You will also learn how astronomers use special telescopes to peer into these wavelengths to reveal new details about our universe. Session B: Asteroids, Comets, and Craters - Thursday, October 16 - Impact craters have reshaped the Earth's surface and are clues to the formation of our solar system. Both terrifying and beautiful, comets, asteroids, and meteors have caused destruction and also been the bringer of life. Explore these mysterious objects, where they are found, what they are made of, and the clues they offer to our past and future. Session C: The Giant Planet - Thursday, November 13 - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the giants of our solar system. Their great sizes have changed and sculpted the way other celestial bodies orbit our sun, but what are they made of? What lies under their thick clouds? How did their rings form? Learn about the development and planetology of our titanic neighbors and the history of the study of these unique worlds. Session D: The Rocky Planets - Thursday, December 11 - The rocky planets of our solar system; Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, all come from a common origin and the same basic building blocks. Yet each has developed in its own unique way. In this class we will tour the rocky planets and learn about their landscapes, atmospheres, geology, and other features. Special Combination Deal - All 4 programs for $115.00. Choose Section "E" Please arrive promptly at 6:45 to gain entry into the planetarium before the 7:00 prompt showtime

Everything necessary for taking great smartphone pictures will be addressed, including: Learning how to use the camera controls on your specific smartphone Basic photographic theory Discussing and, if desired, installing other smartphone camera apps Suggestions for hand-holding your camera Specific steps to follow when taking a picture Useful accessories for your smartphone camera And, how to compose your photographs to produce truly wonderful results A very complete handout will be distributed on arrival. It contains lots of information and will greatly simplify the process of understanding what’s being taught in class. You’ll also find it quite useful for review after the class ends.
