Math Olympiad (Grades 5-6)
"MOEMS is one of the most influential and fun-filled math competition programs in the United States and throughout the world. More than 120,000 students from every state and 39 additional countries participate each year. The objectives of MOEMS are to teach multiple strategies for out-of-the-box problem solving, develop mathematical flexibility in solving those problems, and foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity. MOEMS was established in 1979... (https://moems.org)"Farmington Continuing Education is happy to provide twice the number of registration positions for one of West Woods' most popular programs.It is important to acknowledge that this program is a math competition, it is not a math workshop or opportunity for additional help with math that is part of the school day. Students must work independantly to complete the math tasks and problems. The problems and tasks provided in the course are developed by MOEMS and are grade appropriate.This program is offered in the mornings, before school. Parents will need to drop off their children at the front entrance at the start time of the program and sign in. Please note this course is offered before school and ONLY to students who attend the school where it is offered. If your child participates in Farmington EXCL, be sure to indicate to the site supervisor or morning staff that your child is to attend Math Olympiad. FCE does not prorate course fees based on any type of absence or missed class.

Video Production with Miss Pritchard and Mrs Bastiaanse-Fritch (Gr. 3-4)
Join Molly Pritchard, West District's Library Media Specialist, and Nicole Bastianne-Fritch, West Districts Art educator, for FCE's first program on video production! After a brief introduction, students will storyboard, plan, shoot and edit footage, and then showcase their finalized work to their peers. In today's digital age, proficiency in multimedia creation is a crucial skill for students. Video production not only enhances creativity but also fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.The objectives of this course are to; Introduce students to the basics of video production including planning, filming, editing, and publishing; foster creativity and self-expression through storytelling via video; develop digital literacy skills such as media literacy and digital citizenship; promote collaboration and communication through group projects; and align the learning with currently used education standards.The program is offered in the mornings, before school. Backed by research that shows short bouts of intense exercise can be as effective as longer more moderate workouts, this class makes it easy to fit exercise in your schedule. This class will have a short warm up and cool down, and in-between we will be working intensely with fun, full body moves. Modifications will be given so that you can work at the right pace for you. Plan to leave feeling energized. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Enjoy a gentle full-body stretch at the beginning and end of each class. Beginner ballet exercises will be learned and reviewed during this class in a no-pressure environment. Come in comfortable clothing. Ballet shoes are recommended, but socks are suitable!

BollyX: Dance Fitness

BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with the hottest music from around the world. 45-minute cardio workout cycles between higher and lower-intensity dance sequences will get you moving, sweating, and smiling. At the very core of a BollyX workout is the inspiration it draws from the music and dance of Bollywood, the film industry of India. BollyX embodies the infectious energy, expression, and movement of Bollywood and aims to expand the reach of fitness to more people worldwide. The fitness curriculum has been created by world-class choreographers and certified fitness professionals to ensure a safe and effective total body dance workout for all. No prior dance experience is needed. Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing.

A friendly exercise program that combines low-impact aerobics with stretching, strength training, and routines to improve flexibility, muscular strength, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. Previous punch cards purchased can be used. Three Options for Purchase... Course Fee - Select this if you want access to all the dates for this given season, no punch card needed. Senior Fee - Reduced rate for seniors who would like access to all the dates for this season, no punch card needed. Punch Card - Purchasing this option will get you a punch card that will allow you access to 20 sessions of Cardio Fitness across multiple seasons. If you currently have a punch card with punches left, choose this option and enter in the promo code to remove the charge at checkout. Gentle Essentrics: Aging Backwards Fast Track

This session of Gentle Essentrics will focus on Miranda Esmonde-White's book "Aging Backwards Fast Track". We will explore how Essentrics helps you to look and feel younger and healthier with improved balance and posture; loose, supple joints, relief from chronic pain; increased flexibility and renewed energy. Music-filled, dynamic 45 minute class for men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Please bring your mat. **Classes that take place at the Farmington First Church of Christ location are held in the lower level of the Porter Memorial Building next to the church. The door is accessible from both Church Street and School Street.**

Muscles in Motion

This course consists of a short warm-up and stretch followed by weight training designed to strengthen and tone major muscle groups and increase bone density. This is a full upper and lower body workout. Learn skills to enhance your overall balance and strengthen your back. Gluteus and abdominal muscles will be stressed. Flexibility, breathing exercises, and relaxation will complete this dynamic workout. Bring mat and weights to class. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Exercises focus on the core muscles which include the abs, back, glutes and shoulders. We work to create balance and strength in your trunk and loose, limber limbs. Pilates strives to makes you strong and long while improving balance, coordination and posture. Every part of the body gets worked and you’ll discover muscles you never knew you had. Please bring a mat, a water, a green (or medium weight) flex band, and a 7.5-9 inch stability ball. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Simple Stretches with Chair Exercises

Experience a soft, simple stretch for the mind and body. Lose yourself in the music as you stretch from head to toe (part of this course stretches in a chair). This course is wonderful for those who are less mobile and not as flexible. Come exercise in a setting with support from other participants. Wear comfortable exercise clothing and socks (bare feet are fine as well).

Slo-Flow Yoga

This course offers a flowing sequence of seated and standing yoga postures, with modifications, at a relaxed pace. The focus is on mindfulness, flexibility, and stress reduction using various forms of breath work and movement for a full body experience. Poses are held for longer durations, allowing for deeper stretches and a meditative atmosphere. Leave class feeling centered, focused, and ready to start your day. Some yoga experience is helpful. Please bring a yoga mat, 2 blocks, and blanket to class. Students have the following course options: Tuesday AND Thursday - Two (2) days a week Tuesday OR Thursday - One (1) day a week with the flexibility to choose a Tuesday or a Thursday on a weekly basis. Bring a yoga mat and two yoga blocks. Optional - yoga blanket and bolster.

Focus on the basics of yoga - for all ages and conditions. Increase your flexibility, reduce stress, and bring a sense of calm to your busy life. Zumba® Gold Dance Fitness is for everyone who is looking for a modified Zumba®class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity and impact. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba®choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Class focuses on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Beginners welcome - no prior experience needed. Bring water, sweat towel and wear comfortable shoes.
