Farmington Continuing Education

Designed for children in grades 1-4, EXPLORE teams focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO® bricks and powered by LEGO® SPIKE®.  NEW THIS YEAR, FIRST® and LEGO® have phased in the SPIKE® PRIME, a new motor hub designed to perform significantly better than the now-obsolete EV3®.

This years LEGO® League Theme is SUBMERGED!

In the SUBMERGED challenge, teams will use creative thinking and LEGO^® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future.

Students will investigate a challenge related to a real-world theme, designing and building their solution as a group. Using LEGO® Education SPIKE® they will learn to code their team model to move and be interactive using sensors. Students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. Students will think and behave like designers and engineers, developing their ability to observe, question, gather information, and ask more questions.

Coaches will manage a group of, at maximum, eight children (including your own child). This program is run in partnership with the Farmington High School Robotics team, and coaches will be assisted by a student mentor who will help teach through the entire season. Coaches are expected to serve as the adult in the room and can be as involved or hands off as they like with the actual teaching. A weekly curriculum will be sent out to serve as a guideline, and all mentors will be fully equipped to teach. In addition, the program manager will be present at all meetings to supervise all coaches.
