To register for the GED® examination, an individual should: be 17 years of age or older; not be enrolled in school; and not have graduated from high school. At the time of registration, individuals 17 and 18 years old must submit documentation from the last high school attended that they have: been officially withdrawn from school for at least six months (17 year-olds must have a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian signature); or the class with which they entered ninth grade (or would have entered if never enrolled in high school) has already graduated. Individuals (17 or 18 years old) who are homeschooled and wish to take the GED® Test should contact the GED® Office at (860) 807-2111 or email ged@ct.gov. Individuals who have earned diplomas in countries that do not participate in the GED® testing program are also eligible to take the GED® examination if they meet all other eligibility requirements. What are the fees to take the GED® Tests in Connecticut? An applicant 21 years of age or older and a non-veteran must pay an initial fee of $13 to take the test. The fee to retake or reapply for the test is also $13. These fees include the cost of the diploma. Only veterans and applicants under the age of 21 are exempt from fees. (Veterans must have served at least 181 days of active duty at the time of registration.) All fees are non-refundable and must be paid at the time of registration. Fees should be paid in the form of a money order or certified check made out to the appropriate local or regional board of education. The registrar will instruct the applicant in this regard. How should I register to take the GED® Tests? To register for the GED® tests, all candidates must complete an application in person, at an adult education office or other official GED® registration site. Please see the Adult Education Provider Directory for the contact information of the adult education program that serves your town. At the time of registration: Individuals are required to show a current, valid, government photo ID (driver's license, passport) to the GED® registrar as proof of identity. Individuals 17 and 18 years of age should present documentation (see above) that they have been withdrawn from school for at least six months. Non-veterans who are 21 years of age or older should bring a money order or certified check for $13 (see fees above). All candidates must agree to comply with GED® Testing Service policies regarding the responsibilities of GED® examinees and the ownership of test scores. A notice of examination letter is mailed approximately a week before the GED® Tests are administered. They confirm the date, location, and time of your GED® testing. If your GED® testing is less than a week away and you have not received this notice, please call the GED® Office at (860) 807-2111 or email ged@ct.gov. Practice tests are strongly recommended and are available at most registration sites. Do I have to register to take the entire GED® Test battery (i.e. all four subject area tests) during one test cycle? No. Examinees do not have to take the entire battery (i.e. all four subtests) during one test cycle. Instead, an examinee may take any one or a combination of subtests for which he or she is eligible. However, a new application must be completed in person, and submitted with the reapplication fee of $13, in time for the next desired test cycle (veterans and individuals under the age of 21 are exempt from fees).
