NewDV Coding School: MIT App Inventor (Gr. 5-8)Youth EnrichmentHave you ever wanted to build a mobile app all by yourself? With the MIT App Inventor, you can develop your very own mobile app! MIT App Inventor is an intuitive, visual programming environment that uses blocks to create fully functional Android applications. The block-based environment facilitates the creation of complex, high-level applications in significantly less time than traditional coding environments, like Android Studio, Swift Playground, or React Native. NewDV Coding School: Scratch (Gr. 3-8)Youth EnrichmentScratch is a block-based visual programming language developed by MIT and is an educational tool used for coding. It allows you to create interactive stories, animations, and fully functional games. By developing an understanding of this language, you are awarded the perfect opportunity to become introduced to the advanced world of coding and Computer Science. NewDrawing Wild Animals! (Grades 6-10)Youth EnrichmentConnecticut is teaming up with wondrous wildlife! In this course, learn how to draw wild animals in Connecticut! Students will learn how to draw the features including eyes, noses, and fur as well as learn practical methods of drawing to capture anatomy and gesture. Pencil drawing techniques learned will give students the tools they need to improve their approach to drawing. We will focus on Chipmunks, Cottontail Rabbits & Bobcats in June; Skunks, Racoons, and Fox in August. Materials needed: pencils (4B or similar), erasers (recommend kneaded & vinyl erasers), drawing paper/pad (9x12 or 11x14). A PDF of our subjects will be shared after our first class for convenience printing. Instruction will take place through Zoom. NewFIRST® LEGO® League DISCOVER (Gr. K-1)Youth EnrichmentDesigned for children in Kindergarten and 1st grade, this playful introductory STEM program ignites young students' natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning with hands-on activities in the classroom and at home using LEGO® DUPLO® bricks. Join FIRST® LEGO® League Playmakers as we explore activities we can do in different spaces for play and how we can ensure that our games and activities are fun and accessible for everyone involved. What activities can we do in those spaces? How can the games and the places where we play change to reflect the people playing or the equipment we have? Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® DUPLO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. Students will receive a LEGO® DUPLO® Classic Brick Set (65 pieces) they can take home at the end of the program.Summer 2021

Private Music Lessons - Clarinet, Flute & Saxophone (Gr. 5-12)Youth EnrichmentStart or continue your musical journey to becoming a better flute, clarinet, or saxophone player with private online lessons. This is an excellent way to keep your skills up and improve despite not being able to be in a music ensemble at school. Lessons are one-on-one and are by far the best way to progress on your musical instrument. The instructor can help with equipment recommendations, as well as books and solos to study from. These lessons are available to anyone in grades 5+. Lessons Specifics: Each lesson will run for 45 min. Lessons will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the time you select for a period of 2 weeks: Session A: July 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 Session B: July 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, and 29 There will be 4 lesson slots available in each session: 12-12:45 PM 1-1:45 PM 2-2:45 PM 3-3:45 PM Instruction will take place through Zoom. NewSuzuki String Academy - FULL DAY (Gr. 3-10)Youth EnrichmentThe Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! The Full Day Program is offered to students enrolled in the morning program who would like to continue into the afternoon. Students will receive additional instruction on their stringed instruments and work on extended visual arts projects. There will also be time for basketball, four square, and other outdoor games. Suzuki Strings Academy is designed for students with at least 1 year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass, no beginners, please! NewTheatre Academy (Gr. 2-8)Youth EnrichmentSummerstock comes to Farmington! Over the course of two weeks, students will have a true production experience from start to finish. Beginning with an audition workshop, students will hone their audition skills to try out for roles in a hilarious comedic play that will be produced at the end of the academy. Each day, students will participate in acting workshops, rehearsals, backstage production, and most importantly -- FUN! Join the summer 2020 Theatre Academy in the production of Happily Ever Before! The fairytale villains have had enough! For too long the Evil Queen, Wicked Stepmother, and Dark Fairy have been pushed into the shadows while princesses like Snow White, Cinderella, and Briar Rose get their happily-ever-afters. So, the scoundrels set out to change things. With the help of the sinister Rumpelstiltskin, the mischief-makers use their magic to travel back in time, planning to change the destinies of each of their princesses and send them down a new path that doesn’t end so happily. But as the villains set their plan in motion, a classic cast of fairytale extras — including the Big Bad Wolf, Hansel and Gretel, Goldilocks, and Robin Hood — unwittingly change the princesses’ stories and the course of the villains’ plans.
