Financial Literacy - FOR CREDIT (Gr. 9-11)
The purpose of this course is to provide a space for students to work through the Next Generation Personal Finance standards which include banking, credit, budgeting, investment, taxes and consumer skills. Successful completion fulfills the CT graduation requirement for a 0.5 credit in Financial Literacy. Enrollment is on a space-available basis. The class will be taught remotely. Band Academy (Entering Gr. 6-9)
Youth Enrichment
Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study with highly skilled and energetic instructors and mentors in warmups, performance, improvisation, rhythm work and sectional rehearsals. This camp is not designed for beginners, students must have at least one school-year of playing experience in order to register. Please bring your instrument, music books, a snack and a water bottle, daily. Concert will be held at Farmington High School on Thursday, July 3rd. This program is for students Entering into Grades 6-9 for the Fall of 2025. This is a credit recovery course designed for FHS students who earned a 50% or higher final average in the following English courses taught at FHS: English 100H, English 200H, American Literature H, American Studies, and all of the senior English class offerings. In this course, students will be provided additional time to practice essential learning skills in order to meet the required English graduation standards. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students only.

FIRST® LEGO® League Summer Program (Gr. 1-4)

During the SUBMERGED℠ Season, FIRST LEGO League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining confidence, and teambuilding skills along the way. A full day option is available when combined with Farmington EXCL, which is held across the street at East Farms School. Any student participating in this combination will be brought safely across the street by educators in the programs. Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE Module. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle! The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least one year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle. Food Explorers Summer Program (Gr. 3-6)

Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) Farmers Market Fresh: Seasonal Baking 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of fresh and seasonal baking recipes! Each day, you will be making two brand new recipes featuring produce that is in season this summer, such as peach upside down cakes, tomato galettes, mixed berry shortcakes, and apricot rolls. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, egg, and gluten. Students should bring a water bottle B) Chocolate Week 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a chocolatey week exploring doughs, batters, and more. Each day, you will make two recipes featuring your favorite ingredient... chocolate! We will be making "from scratch" pop-tarts, chocolate fudge buns, chocolate lattice pies, and layer cake. All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, egg, and gluten. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. A lunch is not necessary as students will be eating what they make. If you would like to supplement the food provided, please have your child bring lunch. Health, Physical Education and Wellness Credit Recovery

The purpose of this credit recovery course is to provide more time and assistance for those students who did not achieve course standards in Wellness 9, 10, or 11 curricula during the regular school year. Students will complete individualized units of study for credit. Successful completion fulfills the required credit for graduation in the selected class. Enrollment is open to FHS students who achieved at least a 50% final average in Wellness 9, 10, or 11. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students only.

Math Credit Recovery
FHS Credit Recovery & For Credit Courses
Math - FHS students needing math credit recovery in Geometry, Algebra 2A, or Algebra 2B who earned at least a 50% in one of these courses are eligible for this course. The descriptions for each course are listed below. Note: Students who need credit recovery in both Geometry and Algebra 2A are not eligible for this course and will need to enroll in both courses during the next school year. This course is not to be used to recover credit in Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. Geometry - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2A and Algebra 2B, such as right triangle trigonometry and properties of circles. Algebra 2A - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2B, such as transforming parent functions and solving nonlinear equations. Algebra 2B - The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in future math electives, such as transforming functions, solving nonlinear functions, systems of equations and inequalities, and foundations of trigonometry. Students who complete Algebra 2B summer school successfully may not be fully prepared to move on to Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. This is a remedial course for FARMINGTON High School students only.

This is a credit recovery course designed for FHS students who earned a 50% or higher final average in the following Science courses taught at FHS: Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. In this course, students will be provided additional time and assistance to practice essential learning skills in order to meet the required Science graduation standards. Skills for Success in Advanced Placement (AP) and College-Level Courses (Gr. 10-12)

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to build the skills and study habits needed to be engaged learners in college-level courses. This course will focus on critical thinking and reasoning, written communication, and problem-solving. Students will spend time developing the organizational, inquiry, and writing skills needed to be successful in college-level courses, including AP, Tunxis’s courses, and UCONN’s Early College Experience (ECE) courses. This course is for Farmington High School students in grades 10-12 only who are enrolled in AP, ECE, or other college-level courses offered at FHS and will meet in-person at FHS

Summer Exploration Academy 2025
Exploration Academy
This invitation-only summer Exploration Academy offers both general and special education students opportunities to work toward their own individual goals in reading, writing, math, and word study in a fun, engaging atmosphere for Farmington Public School students. Working alongside general and special educators, all students will have access to small group and one-on-one instruction aimed at helping them to make progress toward grade-level standards and setting them up for a strong start to the next academic year with lots of time to explore engaging topics, play outside, and have fun, too! Select the grade your child will be entering in fall 2025. Select ELL Immersion ONLY if directed by the classroom teacher. Students entering Grade 1 Students entering Grade 2 Students entering Grade 3 Students entering Grade 4 Students entering Grade 5 Students entering Grade 6 ELL Immersion A confirmation email will be emailed in June along with a request for transportation information. Bus transportation is available with pick-up/drop-off at Noah Wallace, Union, West District, Farmington High School, and a TBD location in Hartford. Summer Learning Academy (Grades 7-8)
IAR Reading, Writing & Mathematics Workshop
This invitation-only summer program is to provide students with extra instruction to reinforce skills and concepts in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Students may be registered for one or both content areas based on school recommendations. Session 1: Mission To Mars (Entering Grade 7 or Grade 8) - Blast off into an unforgettable summer with our Mission to Mars program! Designed as an extension to school year programming, curious 7th and 8th graders will hone their reading, writing, math, and science skills as they explore the science behind space exploration, discover the thrilling race for dominance in space during the Cold War, and dive into captivating stories of astronauts and pioneers. Get ready for hands-on projects, interactive lessons, and out-of-this-world fun as you prepare for the ultimate mission! Our two-week program culminates with a field trip to the CT Science Center to view and examine their “Exploring Space” exhibit, the cost of which is $16. Session 2: The Science Behind Pixar (Entering Grade 7 or Grade 8) - This course is designed to offer accelerated learning opportunities in science, math, reading, and writing through the exciting world of movie creation and design! Using student-centered learning, students will engage in hands-on activities to strengthen key skills that are essential for success at their grade level while exploring what it takes to make a Pixar movie! Through collaborative work in small groups, students will deepen their understanding of core subjects while building confidence in their abilities to tackle content-specific challenges. Our two-week program culminates with a field trip to the CT Science Center to explore their new exhibit “The Science Behind Pixar”, the cost of which is $16. These invitation only programs are only for students entering Grade 7 or 8 8:15 AM - 11:30 AM Given that this program meets only for a short period of time and does not involve homework, students MUST attend the program each day and be on time. Parents/Guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the school each day during the program. Admission to the program is based on principal, specialist, and teacher recommendations. Childcare is available through the EXCL Summer Camp for students entering grade 7 or 8 ONLY! Theatre Academy (Gr. 3 -12)

Beginning with an audition workshop, students will hone their audition skills to try out for roles in DreamWorks Production's Shrek: The Musical Jr. Each day, students will participate in rehearsals including music, choreography, improv and drama games, backstage production, and most importantly -- FUN! The FINAL performance will take place on Friday, June 27 in the Irving Robbins Middle School Auditorium. Opportunity for rising (7-12) graders: Students with a serious interest in the "behind-the-scenes" portion of theatre will work with mentors in the areas of stage management, directing, costumes, props, and set design. These students will not perform in the play but instead will be working backstage as part of the production. Students should bring a healthy snack, a healthy lunch, and a water bottle daily. Transition for Success (students entering Gr. 9)

The purpose of the Transition for Success course is to assist students entering 9th grade in developing the tools necessary for positive academic, behavioral, and social/emotional success at Farmington High School. Students will engage in activities to jump-start their freshman year. They will learn about motivation and growth mindset, and they will set goals and organize themselves for a successful launch into 9th grade. Students will receive personalized instruction on the support available to them as students at FHS, including training on using the technologies utilized by FHS faculty and staff as tools for learning. Enrollment is on a space-available basis and open to any incoming FARMINGTON High School students entering grade 9 ONLY and will meet in-person at FHS.

Visual and Performing Arts Academies (2-8)

The AM portion of this program is possible through the Interdistrict Cooperative Grant awarded by the State of Connecticut Department of Education. If you are registering for the AM program only, a $50 fee is due upon registration. AM 8-12 Visual and Performing Arts Program: The Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Program offers a unique blend of creativity and learning for students, with a grant-funded morning session and a fee based afternoon extension. The morning portion of the program is made possible through the Interdistrict Cooperative Grant received from the State of Connecticut Department of Education. Students can participate in this enriching experience for a $50 registration fee. This year’s focus, Permaculture, explores sustainability through its three core ethics: Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Shares. Students will use scientific observation to analyze natural phenomena, examine human impact on the environment, and explore cultural influences on sustainability. Participants explore a wide range of artistic disciplines, including dance, African drumming, digital design, stop-animation, wearable art, drawing, painting, sculpture, and puppetry. The program also includes a field trip to a local museum, where students will have the opportunity to explore contemporary art and draw inspiration from professional works. This program runs from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Transportation options are available and are listed at the bottom of this description. *This morning program is contingent on being awarded the Interdistrict Cooperative Grant through the Connecticut State Department of Education. Since the current program design is contingent on grant funding, should funding not be awarded, ONLY the morning program will NOT be held and the registration fee will be refunded. Notification of grant awards is expected in July.* PM 12-4 Farmington Continuing Education Summer Art Academy: For students wishing to extend their day, Farmington Continuing Education is offering the FCE Art Academy in the afternoon. This additional, pay-for-service component continues the exploration of art principles and techniques introduced during the morning session. Running from 12 PM to 4 PM for the same two weeks the Visual and Performing Arts program runs (July 28 - August 8), the afternoon Academy delves deeper into the topics covered earlier in the day, with opportunities for more hands-on projects, personalized instruction, and collaborative group work. Students can further enhance their artistic skills while fostering creativity and critical thinking. The work done in this afternoon program will be highlighted in the culminating event on August 28th. This option includes the morning VPA program and its fees. If you register for this option, you do not need to register for the AM program. *The PM portion of this program is not funded by the Interdistrict Cooperative Grant and will run regardless of the grant being awarded.* Transportation: Busing will be available to/from Vance School in New Britain, Linden Street School in Plainville, and Rawson Elementary in Hartford each day. Please note the pick-up and drop-off times for each location listed below: Vance School, New Britain AM drop-off: 7:10 -7:20 AM (bus will leave Vance promptly at 7:30 AM) PM pick-up: 12:30 PM (bus times may vary based on traffic) Linden Street School, Plainville AM drop-off: 7:25 - 7:35 AM (bus will leave Linden promptly at 7:45 AM) PM pick-up: 1220 PM (bus times may vary based on traffic) Rawson Elementary School, Hartford AM drop-off: 7:10 -7:20 AM (bus will leave Rawson promptly at 7:25 AM) PM pick-up: 12:30 PM (bus times may vary based on traffic) Important Information: Only one transportation option can be selected. You must select one and cannot combine options. Students will be required to be signed in and out daily by an adult (18+ years). We ask that all students are picked-up promptly.
