FOOD Explorers No Bake Taster (Gr. 2-4)
This course is perfect for that student who is interested in cooking and wants to learn some of the basics. Join Food Explorers for a deliciously seasonal fall dessert class! You’ll be making Sweet Potato Pies with a homemade Marshmallow Whipped Cream! You’ll be making your own graham cracker crust, filling and whipped cream from scratch in this hands on cooking class. Recipe is nut free but will contain dairy, eggs and gluten. The course fee includes the cost of ingredients and supplies.PLEASE NOTE:This Course is for Farmington Public Schools students who are enrolled at West District, Union School, East Farms, and Noah Wallace. You must register at the school that your child attends and where it is offered. Each school's offered classes varies.*** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY***On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending EXCL for the enrichment course you have signed up for. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. At the end of the school day when dismissed, students who are attending will be sent to EXCL where they will be supervised until the start of the course, and be offered an afternoon snack. When the course starts, they will be brought to the course classroom by the instructor. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school.Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. Language
Acquire cultural knowledge of Italy while learning to speak and write and articulate everyday habits and circumstances in the present tense. Throughout the course, through the writing of short compositions that are an integral part of each lesson, you will sharpen your writing skills. In addition, learn to read and understand cultural material. Through a combination of presentations, group work, and guided interaction, improve your Italian proficiency and gain cultural awareness. At the end of the course, you will be able to function in an authentic Italian environment through understanding and participating in basic everyday conversations on topics ranging from introduction, directions, and dining out.

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Who should take this course? The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. This course covers certification to use CPR on adults, children and infants. Students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Card upon successful completion of this course.

Adult Tap offers the opportunity to exercise in a unique and fun way. Start with a gentle stretch, learn or review a tap step, work on techniques, and finish with a short tap combination. If you are completely new to tap dance, please sign up for our Introduction to Tap courses. Wear comfortable clothing and do not forget your tap shoes! Don't have tap shoes but want to experience the course? We may have a gently used pair that you can borrow or purchase.

A friendly exercise program that combines low-impact aerobics with stretching, strength training, and routines to improve flexibility, muscular strength, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. Session B: Holiday Wreath Treat yourself to a unique experience with a hands-on class featuring a mini holiday wreath charcuterie board. Learn how to design and style your own, mini holiday wreath charcuterie board with a hands-on lesson from Chell's Charcuterie. In this class you will learn how to create different types of holiday decorations like wreaths, swags, and table arrangements using nature’s gifts and your garden. We will discuss what materials work best and how to safely and legally forage for them. We will discuss materials like evergreens, berries, and branches to name a few! We will explore what makes an arrangement stunning, including varying levels of interest using both traditional and non‐traditional elements. We will also discuss how to properly prepare your decorations, how to choose the right elements to maximize that festive feel, and longevity throughout the Winter season. When you leave this class you will have the insight and confidence to create beautiful and festive decorations for your home using what you already have right outside your doorstep!

Gentle Essentrics: Aging Backwards Fast Track

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HAVE ATTENDED THE PREVIOUS FALL SESSION OF GENTLE ESSENTRICS TO ATTEND THIS CLASS. Gentle Essentrics is a full-body stretching and strengthening program which rebalances the body enabling our full range of motion so that we can enjoy the activities we love. This session continues working with Miranda Esmonde-White’s book Aging Backwards: Fast Track, helping us to feel and be our best selves. Join us for a 50-minute non-stop music-filled class. Floor exercises may be done in a chair if preferable. Please bring a mat, perhaps a small towel and water. **Classes that take place at the Farmington First Church of Christ location are held in the lower level of the Porter Memorial Building next to the church. The door is accessible from both Church Street and School Street.**

Whether you're a seasoned decorator or new to the holiday decorating game, you'll learn how to decorate wreaths like a pro. We'll start by discussing the different types of Christmas decorations for wreaths, including options for both indoor and outdoor spaces. You'll learn how to choose the right color scheme and decorations to create cohesive and eye‐catching combinations. Next, we'll learn how to make a stunning bow! Finally we will cover the basics of assembling your creation with a hands-on guided session. How to Play Piano by Ear
Music, Dance & Drama
Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing-all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, and free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended. Fee includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and an optional monthly question and answer session. Class is held online using zoom. Topics include: How to find the starting note How to determine when chords change How to predict the chord progression How chords help you find the correct melody How the melody helps you find the correct chords How to learn songs from recordings How to transpose The Universal Key Signature How to use the Circle of Fifths How to recognize the most common chord patterns Instruction will take place through Zoom. Introduction to Voiceovers... Getting Started in Voice Acting

Register for this one-time, 90-minute introductory course at any time! Upon receipt of registration, you will be contacted by a representative from Voices For All to schedule your 90-minute session based on your availability. “Wow, you have a great voice!” Have you heard that more times than you can count? Or maybe you listen to your favorite audiobooks, commercials, or cartoon characters and think, “I could do that!” Want to earn income using your talents from the comfort of your home? If so, then you could have what it takes to begin working as a professional Voiceover Artist. Explore the voiceover industry with your instructor, a professional, working voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All, in a one-on-one, personalized, video chat setting. Discover the current trends in the industry and how easy and affordable it can be to learn, set up and work from home. In this one-time, 90-minute, introductory class, you’ll also learn about the different types of voiceovers and the tools you’ll need to find success. Enjoy 5 mile, 3 hour, weekly intermediate level hikes on Thursdays at 8:45am. Hiking shoes with vibram soles, water bottle, and hiking poles are recommended. Monthly hike details and schedule, GPS addresses, and trail maps are emailed. Custom hikes for all ability levels are available upon request. Purchase a Hiking Club Punch Card (good for 10 hikes) to pay as you go! Once purchased, Punch Cards will be mailed to registrants.
