Financial Literacy - FOR CREDIT (Gr. 9-11)
The purpose of this course is to provide a space for students to work through the Next Generation Personal Finance standards which include banking, credit, budgeting, investment, taxes and consumer skills. Successful completion fulfills the CT graduation requirement for a 0.5 credit in Financial Literacy. Enrollment is on a space-available basis. The class will be taught remotely. Login instructions will be emailed to registrants before the start of class. This course is open to Farmington High School students entering grades 9-11 only.

Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)
The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least one year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle. Sample Daily Schedule: 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM Small Group Instrument Lessons 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM Note-Reading Group Class 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM Visual Arts 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM Orchestra Rehearsal 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM Physical Education NOTES: Registration deadline: June 29, 2025 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 29 less a $35 fee. Backed by research that shows short bouts of intense exercise can be as effective as longer more moderate workouts, this class makes it easy to fit exercise in your schedule. This class will have a short warm up and cool down, and in-between we will be working intensely with fun, full body moves. Modifications will be given so that you can work at the right pace for you. Adult Tap for Beginners

Adult Tap offers the opportunity to exercise in the unique and fun way. We will start with a gentle stretch and then work on a different tap combination each week. If you are completely new to tap dancing, please sign up for our Introduction to Tap course. Any form of dance is healthy for the mind and body. It gets our bodies moving and boosts our brainpower. Participating in a dance class is also great for socialization. Wear comfortable clothing and do not forget your tap shoes! Don’t have tap shoes but want to experience the course? We may have a gently used pair that you can purchase.

Basic Ballet & Stretch
Fitness
Enjoy a gentle full-body stretch at the beginning of each class. Beginner ballet exercises will then be learned and reviewed. We will finish with gentle floor stretches, so please bring a yoga mat. This class is a no-pressure, non-traditional ballet class environment. Come in comfortable clothing. Ballet shoes are recommended, but socks are suitable.

A friendly exercise program that combines low-impact aerobics with stretching, strength training, and routines to improve flexibility, muscular strength, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. Previous punch cards purchased can be used. Three Options for Purchase... Course Fee - Select this if you want access to all the dates for this given season, no punch card needed. Senior Fee - Reduced rate for seniors who would like access to all the dates for this season, no punch card needed. Punch Card - Purchasing this option will get you a punch card that will allow you access to 20 sessions of Cardio Fitness across multiple seasons. If you currently have a punch card with punches left, choose this option and enter in the promo code to remove the charge at checkout. In this one-night, live online class, your instructor will take you behind-the-scenes in the voice over field for a fun and realistic look at how the voice over field really works. You’ll gain inside perspective on developing skills, and how to leverage your voice's strengths and interests, and more. Because this class is live, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions! Hikes - Nature Walk Series

Join Farmington Continuing Education for 6 moderately paced nature walks on wooded trails in Central and Northern CT. Appreciate nature’s tranquility and subtle gifts while still getting some exercise with the Top 6 Best Nature Walks. Enjoy 2.5 mile, hour and a half, weekly easy walks on Tuesday mornings starting at 8:45am. Any postponement due to weather will be communicated before the hike via email. Good hiking boots and water are essential, and hiking poles are recommended! In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Fee includes the online book, online follow up lessons, a recording of the class and also an optional periodic question and answer session. Class is held online using zoom and is partly hands on instruction and partly lecture/demonstration. For ages 13+. Students will need to have their acoustic guitar on hand. Upon receipt of registration, you will be contacted by a representative from Voices For All to schedule your 90-minute session based on your availability. “Wow, you have a great voice!” Have you heard that more times than you can count? Or maybe you listen to your favorite audiobooks, commercials, or cartoon characters and think, “I could do that!” Want to earn income using your talents from the comfort of your home? If so, then you could have what it takes to begin working as a professional Voiceover Artist. Explore the voiceover industry with your instructor, a professional, working voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All, in a one-on-one, personalized, video chat setting. Equanimity develops, and we can stop chasing after pleasure and running from pain. Clinical studies have shown that the practice of mindfulness can reduce stress, anxiety, pain, depression, insomnia, and high blood pressure. This class is an opportunity to practice meditation and learn about Buddhist psychology in a supportive group. The course will not cover the Buddhist religion.

Simple Stretches with Chair Exercises

Experience a soft, simple stretch and workout for the mind and body. In this class we stretch from head to toe. Most of this course is done sitting in a chair. Thera Bands are used from time to time, and on occasion we stand holding onto a chair to aid in our ability to balance. This course is wonderful for those who are less mobile and not as flexible. Come exercise in a setting with support from other participants. Wear comfortable exercise clothing and socks (bare feet are fine as well).

Whether you're a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, this class will guide you through the entire process – from learning the basics of your smartphone’s video camera to working with a high quality (and free!) editing program to produce your final, polished video. Everything necessary for creating wonderful smartphone videos will be addressed, including: Locating and learning about the various video camera controls on your smartphone Discussing the best settings for those video camera controls How specific camera accessories can greatly improve the quality of your videos Specific steps to follow when getting ready to shoot Specific steps to follow while shooting your video The art of composition – how to frame your shots and manipulate your camera for more visually engaging videos AND, an introduction to a great editing program for turning your raw footage into a polished video production A very complete handout will be distributed on arrival.
