Roary's Garden Helpers
Students will learn gardening and garden maintenance by focusing on seed growth, germination, composting, weeding, and how to care for a garden from spring to fall. There will be opportunities for inquiry and STEM activities. Some activities may include garden design and construction, transplanting, and garden decoration. Roary's Garden Helpers has been developed with project-based, inquiry-based, and play-based learning in mind.PLEASE NOTE:This course is for enrolled students at their respective home schools.*** PLEASE NOTE OUR YOUTH DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP POLICY***On the day of the course be sure to inform your child's school office, using their prescribed dismissal change policy, that your child will be attending this program after school. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes. Parents are not to bring their children to the school to attend this course, students are only to be dismissed directly from school.Parents should be prompt to pick up at the course dismissal time as charges will accrue if parents are late. Dismissal will occur at the entrance of the building and will be facilitated by the school security guard and instructor. Parents will not be permitted into the building and it is advised that parents stay in their cars until the dismissal time, or until the instructor is visible at the front door. Each parent will need to sign their child out and must have a valid I.D. ready. The I.D. must match that of the parent/guardian who signed up the child or by an authorized pick-up. To authorize an additional pick-up, please call 860-404-0290 Ext. 7070.Students who are attending EXCL on the day of the course will be dismissed back to EXCL.

Theatre Academy (Gr. 3 -12)
Beginning with an audition workshop, students will hone their audition skills to try out for roles in DreamWorks Production's Shrek: The Musical Jr. Each day, students will participate in rehearsals including music, choreography, improv and drama games, backstage production, and most importantly -- FUN! The FINAL performance will take place on Friday, June 27 in the Irving Robbins Middle School Auditorium.Opportunity for rising (7-12) graders: Students with a serious interest in the "behind-the-scenes" portion of theatre will work with mentors in the areas of stage management, directing, costumes, props, and set design. These students will not perform in the play but instead will be working backstage as part of the production. Students should bring a healthy snack, a healthy lunch, and a water bottle daily. Daily Sample Schedule: 9:00 - 9:05 morning meeting 9:05 - 10:00 Workshop 1 10:00 - 10:15 Snack in Cafe 10:15 - 11:00 Workshop 2 11:00 - 11:45 Workshop 3 11:45 - 12:15 Lunch 12:20 - 1:55 Full Cast Rehearsal 2:00 Dismissal NOTES: Registration deadline: June 8, 2025 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 10 with a $35 fee. Cheesemaking for Advanced Beginners

Ready to take the next step in making cheese? In this class we will learn to make herbed Havarti and spice-rubbed Montasio. These cheeses involve some new techniques and will expand your knowledge of cheesemaking. Prerequisite: Student has already taken either the Mozzarella or the Feta class.

This functionally fun class provides a complete workout that will help tone and reshape your body. You will use light weights, bands and your own body weight to improve strength, flexibility, balance and stamina to sculpt and tone. Bring a yoga mat, water, and light weights. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course. Cursive Writing Club with Mrs. Chaves

Come learn the basic strokes, connections, and formations necessary to write in traditional cursive writing. Studies have shown that cursive writing provides a wide range of cognitive benefits including improvements in reading skill, writing confidence, and memory retention. Join veteran Farmington Public Schools teacher, Mrs. Chaves, in this 5 course class and bring some finesse to your child's writing. Be sure to pack a snack. We will have a brief break to eat once students arrive. Come learn how to create beautiful sugar cookies with Royal Icing. You will learn and practice how to outline and flood cookies with icing. You will also learn different techniques to enhance the cookies, such as wet on wet, transfers, and texture. FIRST® LEGO® League Summer Program (Gr. 1-4)
Youth Enrichment
During the SUBMERGED℠ Season, FIRST LEGO League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining confidence, and teambuilding skills along the way. A full day option is available when combined with Farmington EXCL, which is held across the street at East Farms School. Any student participating in this combination will be brought safely across the street by educators in the programs. Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE Module. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle! FIRST LEGO League
Through a variety of LEGO® builds and various hands-on experiments, students will explore STEAM concepts over the course of three weeks. From liquid physics to building rockets and more, students will work together to experience and investigate the fun of science and the wonders of the world around them. Students will learn various aspects of how the world works. "Hi, I’m Tuhan, and I’ve been running the LEGO® League® program with Farmington Continuing Education since 2020. I’ve worked with students from kindergarten through high school, and am an alum and mentor for the high school robotics team since 2017. My pride and joy is running the FIRST® LEGO® League programs for all ages in Farmington, and my goal is to increase the number of LEGO® and STEAM programs in our district."

FOOD Explorers No Bake Taster (Gr. 2-4)

This course is perfect for that student who is interested in cooking and wants to learn some of the basics. Join Food Explorers for a delightful dessert class where you'll learn to make a refreshing Strawberry Lemonade Pie! This no-bake treat combines the perfect balance of sweet strawberries and tangy lemon in a graham cracker crust. Come enjoy a fun, hands-on experience and leave with a delicious personal pie! All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten. The course fee includes the cost of ingredients and supplies. PLEASE NOTE: This Course is for Farmington Public Schools students who are enrolled at West District, Union School, East Farms, and Noah Wallace. You must register at the school that your child attends and where it is offered. FOOD TOUR with Prudence Sloane - A DONG'S SUPERMARKET & VIETNAMESE Luncheon

A Dong Supermarket is over 30,000 square feet of Chinatown in West Hartford, complete with hanging ducks, live fish, exotic produce and all the ingredients you need to cook Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese. Prudence Sloane will guide you through this most extraordinary supermarket and give you expert advice on how to cook and use many of the products offered. All secrets will be revealed. Afterwards we feast on Vietnamese specialties at Pho Boston next door. We will meet at Cha Papi, next to A Dong's Supermarket, between 9:30 am and 10 am.Cha Papi is an Asian coffee shop with wonderful rice donuts and amazing coffee (not included on tour). Bring a sweater - the supermarket can get cold. Food allergies and dietary restrictions (shrimp, pork, chicken, beef) must be noted upon registering. Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)
Youth Enrichment
The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least one year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle.
