FIRST® LEGO® League - CHALLENGE (Gr. 5-6)
FIRST LEGO League
Designed for children in grades 5-6, CHALLENGE teams engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. This program is contingent on having at least one additional parent coach to co-managet the team. Tuhan Nguyen will be present to run each class, but to be in complience with FIRST guidelines, there must be two adults present with the team. If you are interested in being a parent coach, please contact Tuhan at Nguyent@fpsct.org, and Kevin Riendeau, Enrichment Supervisor, at riendeauk@fpsct.org. This responsibility may be split between multiple parents and no technical experience is required. NEW THIS YEAR, FIRST® and LEGO® have phased in the SPIKE PRIME, a new motor hub designed to perform significantly better than the now-obsolete EV3. "Grab your gear, pack your magnifying glass, rope, and pickaxe - the adventure begins! In this season of FIRST® LEGO® League UNEARTHED™, you and your team will follow the traces of the past: uncover hidden treasures, mysterious artifacts, and forgotten stories. But your mission doesn't end with the discovery, that's just the beginning!" It is important to note that FLL Challenge is on a different level than FLL Explore, as it is a competition level program, meaning that the robot and project that the students work on will be what they present and compete with against other teams. In order to ensure the team is prepared for the competition, students are expected to attend all meetings and must be committed to the hard work involved. Students may be asked to complete homework between meetings and additional meetings may be held near the day of the competition if required. The registration deadline is September 12th The course fee includes the cost of supplies.
