  • Math Credit Recovery

    Students needing math credit recovery in Algebra 2B, Geometry, or Algebra 2A are eligible for this course. The descriptions for each course are listed below. Students in the math credit recovery course will receive targeted instruction and support on a personalized pathway. Successful completion of the course will be determined based on the student’s demonstration of mastery of the requisite standards and will result in the student earning credit in one of the following three courses. (Note: Students who need credit recovery in both Geometry and Algebra 2A are not eligible for this course and will need to enroll in both courses during the next school year. This course is not to be used to recover credit in Advanced Topics in Algebra 2.) Geometry - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Geometry. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2A and Algebra 2B, such as right triangle trigonometry and properties of circles. Algebra 2A - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Algebra 2A. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2B, such as transforming parent functions and solving nonlinear equations. Algebra 2B - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Algebra 2B. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in future math electives, such as transforming functions, solving nonlinear functions, systems of equations and inequalities, and foundations of trigonometry. Students who complete Algebra 2B summer school successfully may not be fully prepared to move on to Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. The class will be taught remotely.   • Muscles in Motion

    This course consists of a short warm-up and stretch followed by weight training designed to strengthen and tone major muscle groups and increase bone density. This is a full upper and lower body workout. Learn skills to enhance your overall balance and strengthen your back. Gluteus and abdominal muscles will be stressed. Flexibility, breathing exercises, and relaxation will complete this dynamic workout. Bring mat and weights to class. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from the instructor or Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

Pilates strives to make you strong and long while improving balance, coordination, and posture. Every part of the body gets worked and you’ll discover muscles you never knew you had. Have a mat, water, a green (or medium weight) flex band, and a 7.5-9 inch stability ball available. Instruction will take place through Zoom. Registrants will receive an email from Farmington Continuing Education containing a link and instructor information before the start of the course.

  • Reading, Writing & Mathematics Workshop (Grades 7 and 8)

    This invitation-only summer program is to provide students with extra instruction to reinforce skills and concepts in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Students may be registered for one or both content areas based on school recommendations. Reading and Writing: Students will participate in diverse and engaging reading and writing experiences that will provide skill development. This workshop will also address Farmington’s Vision of the Global Citizen skills, as students will develop critical thinking and reasoning skills by reading, discussing, and analyzing fiction and non-fiction texts. Collaboration with partners and small groups of peers will enable students to develop communication skills through speaking and writing. The Reading and Writing Workshop is an opportunity for students to work with peers to continue to develop and refine essential literacy skills. Mathematics: Students will engage in activities that address and develop a variety of essential mathematics skills. Students will be problem-solvers in this workshop, partnering with peers to take on mathematical challenges that will develop skills related to number sense. Critical thinking skills will be put to use as students deepen their understanding of expressions and equations as well as the nuances of ratio and proportional relationships. Collaboration with peers in small groups will provide opportunities for students to develop a deeper understanding of geometry while having fun. For students entering Grade 7 or 8: Reading, Writing & Mathematics: 8:15 AM - 11:30 AM Given that this program meets only for a short period of time and does not involve homework, students MUST attend the program each day and be on time. Parents/Guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the school each day during the program. Admission to the program is based on principal, specialist, and teacher recommendations. Childcare is available through the EXCL Summer Camp for students entering grade 7 or 8 ONLY!     Take a trip to Yankee Stadium, where the rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox continues. Arrive early to enjoy the entertainment and food both in and around the stadium before making your way to your reserved seats. Game time: 1:35 PM (can be subject to change by MLB) Seats are in Section 322, Rows 5-7 No alcoholic beverages are allowed to be brought or consumed on the bus There are NO paper tickets. All tickets are electronic through Ticketmaster. Trip Leader will access and scan ALL passengers as a group into Yankee Stadium immediately upon arrival in NY.     Savvy Social Security Planning for Baby Boomers

    The rules for Social Security change often so what you thought you knew may be different now! When should you take your Social Security? How do you apply? What impact does your spouse's Social Security have on what you collect? This course covers not only the basics of Social Security but also reveals strategies for maximizing your benefits. We will discuss how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits and how to coordinate your Social Security with your other sources of retirement income. We welcome your questions about Social Security benefits as you explore your options in making this financial decision. Instruction will take place through Start Meeting.     Make a sea glass necklace with a starfish using a shimmery foil application on the sea glass. Choose from different pattern options. The sea glass is real sea glass from MD, RI, MA, NY and CT. We will learn about sea glass as well and the history of it. Course fee includes supplies.
  • Simple Stretches with Chair Exercises

    Experience a soft, simple stretch for the mind and body. Lose yourself in the music as you stretch from head to toe (part of this course stretches in a chair). This course is wonderful for those who are less mobile and not as flexible. Come exercise in a setting with support from other participants. Wear comfortable exercise clothing and socks (bare feet are fine as well).
  • Skills for Success in Advanced Placement (AP) and College-Level Courses (Gr. 10-12)

    The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to build the skills and study habits needed to be engaged learners in college-level courses. This course will focus on critical thinking and reasoning, written communication, and problem-solving. Students will spend time developing the organizational, inquiry, and writing skills needed to be successful in college-level courses, including AP, Tunxis’s courses, and UCONN’s Early College Experience (ECE) courses. This course is for FARMINGTON High School students in grades 10-12 ONLY who are enrolled in AP, ECE, or other college-level courses offered at FHS and will meet in-person at FHS

    This is a credit recovery course designed for FHS students who earned a 50% or higher final average in the following Social Studies courses taught at FHS: World History I H, World History II H, and Government and Law. In this course, students will be provided additional time to master core content-area standards and essential learning skills in order to meet the required course standards. Students will receive targeted instruction and support in a personalized setting. Successful completion of the course will be determined based on the student’s demonstration of mastery of the requisite standards and will result in the student earning credit for the course. Note: Students who need credit recovery for American Studies must enroll in the English Credit Recovery Course.The class will be taught remotely.     The purpose of this credit recovery course is to give students one-on-one assistance in developing the skills necessary to pass the Farmington Language Standards Test.     Farmington Public Schools art educators invite you to join them for one week of intensive art-making and fun! Join Farmington Continuing Education's first summer art academy at West Woods School in Farmington. Taught by Farmington Public Schools professional educators, this class will have students working in a variety of media and subject matter. Printmaking, weaving, floral painting, watercolor, collage, installation art and more will be covered in this week long course. Students should wear appropriate clothing, and bring waterbottle and lunch daily. NOTES: Registration deadline: July 15 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to July 15 less a $35 fee. There are NO cancellations / refunds after July 15.
