  • 2024 Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Program

    2023 Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Program - This program is only for those students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) who have been recommended to receive special education and/or related services as described in their IEPs. NOTE: If you also are planning to enroll your child in the EXCL program before or after the ESY Program, you also will need to register your child for EXCL separately.
  • Band Academy (Entering Gr. 6-9)

    Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study with highly skilled and energetic instructors and mentors in warmups, performance, improvisation, rhythm work and sectional rehearsals. This camp is not designed for beginners, students must have at least one school year of playing experience in order to register. Please bring your instrument, music books, a snack and a water bottle, daily. Concert will be held at West Woods Upper Elementary School on Friday, June 28th at 11am in the gymnasium. NOTES: Registration deadline: June 2, 2024 Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be allowed up to June 10 with a $35 fee. There are NO cancellations / refunds after June 10! EXTENDED DAY OPTION: The EXCL Summer Camp is available for children who need before and after childcare that are registered for Band Camp.     The purpose of this course is to provide an intensive study of government, law, and citizenship. Successful completion fulfills the social studies graduation requirement in Civics.   • English Credit Recovery

    This is a credit recovery course designed for FHS students who earned a 50% or higher final average in the following English courses taught at FHS: English 100H, English 200H, American Literature H, American Studies, and all of the senior English class offerings. In this course, students will be provided additional time to practice essential learning skills in order to meet the required English graduation standards. Students will receive targeted instruction and support in a personalized setting. Successful completion of the course will be determined based on the student’s demonstration of mastery of the requisite standards and will result in the student earning credit for the course.   • FIRST® LEGO® League Summer Program (Gr. 1-4)

    Lights, camera, STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) inspire big ideas, bold action – and creativity. Our skills make it possible to create art and experiences that bring us together, entertain us, and move us. During this session, FIRST® IN SHOW presented by Qualcomm, we will celebrate the roles our STEM skills play in the arts, design, and building of a world of endless possibilities. The future is yours to create. Under the instruction of the Farmington Robotics Enforcers, students will work together to solve fun engineering challenges and build models using LEGO® bricks, gaining habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. 1 PM - 4 PM Students in grades 1-4 Students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Students should bring their school/personal Chromebook or laptop to class each day, if possible, along with a healthy snack and a water bottle!   • Farmington Summer Strings Academy (Entering Gr. 3 -10)

    The Farmington Public Schools Orchestra Teachers and members of the Hartford Symphony invite you to join them for 3 weeks of intensive music-making and fun! Daily classes include mini-lessons on your stringed instrument, note-reading and group class, orchestra, movement, and visual arts. Advanced players may also have chamber music opportunities. The Farmington Strings Academy is designed for students with at least 1 year of instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or string bass - no beginners, please! Students should bring their instruments, music books, a healthy snack, and a water bottle.   • Financial Literacy - FOR CREDIT (Gr. 9-10)

    The purpose of this course is to provide a space for students to work through the Next Generation Personal Finance standards which include banking, credit, budgeting, investment, taxes and consumer skills. Successful completion fulfills the CT graduation requirement for a 0.5 credit in Financial Literacy. Enrollment is on a space-available basis.The class will be taught remotely. Dates: June 25 - July 19 (no class on July 4 or 5), 8:30 AM to 12 Noon, 17 sessions.
  • Food Explorers Summer Program (Gr. 3-6)

    Join Food Explorers for a week of fun with food! A) From Scratch 9 AM - 12 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Join Food Explorers for a week of from scratch cooking! Each day you’ll be making two recipes completely from scratch. We’re talking about homemade tortillas, homemade pasta, homemade naan bread and more. Learn all about complex cooking techniques and skills in this hands-on camp. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle B) Summer Baking Challenge 1 PM - 4 PM For students entering grades 3-6 Explore advanced baking techniques like homemade dough, homemade pie crust and intricately decorated shortbread cookies. With recipes like Mini Apple Lattice Pies, Strawberry Twists, Pear Cinnamon Rolls and Pizza from scratch, these recipes full of skill building and exploration. All recipes are nut free but do contain eggs, dairy and gluten. Ingredient substitutions are not possible. Students should bring a water bottle C) Full-Day Option 9 AM - 4 PM Students in grades 3-6 This option is a combination of both the AM and PM options listed above Be sure to have your child bring a water-bottle. A lunch is not necessary as students will be eating what they make. If you would like to supplement the food provided, please have your child bring a lunch.     The purpose of this credit recovery course is to give students one-on-one assistance in developing the skills necessary to pass the Farmington Language Standards Test. Meeting the standard on this test is a Farmington High School graduation requirement. Enrollment is open to eligible FHS students who have been recommended for this course by their high school language teacher. The class will be taught remotely.     The purpose of this credit recovery course is to provide more time and assistance for those students who did not achieve course standards in Wellness 9, 10, or 11 curricula during the regular school year. Students will complete individualized units of study for credit. Successful completion fulfills the required credit for graduation in the selected class. Enrollment is open to FHS students who achieved at least a 50% final average in Wellness 9, 10, or 11. The class will be taught remotely.   • Math Credit Recovery

    Students needing math credit recovery in Algebra 2B, Geometry, or Algebra 2A are eligible for this course. The descriptions for each course are listed below. Students in the math credit recovery course will receive targeted instruction and support on a personalized pathway. Successful completion of the course will be determined based on the student’s demonstration of mastery of the requisite standards and will result in the student earning credit in one of the following three courses. (Note: Students who need credit recovery in both Geometry and Algebra 2A are not eligible for this course and will need to enroll in both courses during the next school year. This course is not to be used to recover credit in Advanced Topics in Algebra 2.) Geometry - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Geometry. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2A and Algebra 2B, such as right triangle trigonometry and properties of circles. Algebra 2A - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Algebra 2A. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in Algebra 2B, such as transforming parent functions and solving nonlinear equations. Algebra 2B - Credit recovery in this course is designed for FHS students who earned at least a 50% final course average in Algebra 2B. The focus of the course will be placed on mastering the standards needed to be successful in future math electives, such as transforming functions, solving nonlinear functions, systems of equations and inequalities, and foundations of trigonometry. Students who complete Algebra 2B summer school successfully may not be fully prepared to move on to Advanced Topics in Algebra 2. The class will be taught remotely.   • Reading, Writing & Mathematics Workshop (Grades 7 and 8)

    This invitation-only summer program is to provide students with extra instruction to reinforce skills and concepts in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Students may be registered for one or both content areas based on school recommendations. Reading and Writing: Students will participate in diverse and engaging reading and writing experiences that will provide skill development. This workshop will also address Farmington’s Vision of the Global Citizen skills, as students will develop critical thinking and reasoning skills by reading, discussing, and analyzing fiction and non-fiction texts. Collaboration with partners and small groups of peers will enable students to develop communication skills through speaking and writing. The Reading and Writing Workshop is an opportunity for students to work with peers to continue to develop and refine essential literacy skills. Mathematics: Students will engage in activities that address and develop a variety of essential mathematics skills. Students will be problem-solvers in this workshop, partnering with peers to take on mathematical challenges that will develop skills related to number sense. Critical thinking skills will be put to use as students deepen their understanding of expressions and equations as well as the nuances of ratio and proportional relationships. Collaboration with peers in small groups will provide opportunities for students to develop a deeper understanding of geometry while having fun. For students entering Grade 7 or 8: Reading, Writing & Mathematics: 8:15 AM - 11:30 AM Given that this program meets only for a short period of time and does not involve homework, students MUST attend the program each day and be on time. Parents/Guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the school each day during the program.   • Skills for Success in Advanced Placement (AP) and College-Level Courses (Gr. 10-12)

    The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to build the skills and study habits needed to be engaged learners in college-level courses. This course will focus on critical thinking and reasoning, written communication, and problem-solving. Students will spend time developing the organizational, inquiry, and writing skills needed to be successful in college-level courses, including AP, Tunxis’s courses, and UCONN’s Early College Experience (ECE) courses. This course is for FARMINGTON High School students in grades 10-12 ONLY who are enrolled in AP, ECE, or other college-level courses offered at FHS and will meet in-person at FHS

  • Summer Art Academy (Gr. 1-6)

    Farmington Public Schools art educators invite you to join them for one week of intensive art-making and fun! Join Farmington Continuing Education's first summer art academy at West Woods School in Farmington. Taught by Farmington Public Schools professional educators, this class will have students working in a variety of media and subject matter. Printmaking, weaving, floral painting, watercolor, collage, instalation art and more will be covered in this week long course. Students should wear appropriate clothing, and bring waterbottle and lunch daily.   • Summer Exploration Academy 2024

    This invitation-only summer Exploration Academy offers both general and special education students opportunities to work toward their own individual goals in reading, writing, math, and word study in a fun, engaging atmosphere for Farmington Public School students. Working alongside general and special educators, all students will have access to small group and one-on-one instruction aimed at helping them to make progress toward grade-level standards and setting them up for a strong start to the next academic year with lots of time to explore engaging topics, play outside, and have fun, too! Select the grade your child will be entering in fall 2024. Select ELL Immersion ONLY if directed by the classroom teacher.   • Theatre Academy (Gr. 3 -12)

    Beginning with an audition workshop, students will hone their audition skills to try out for roles in Disney's Newsies Jr. Each day, students will participate in rehearsals including music, choreography, improv and drama games, backstage production, and most importantly -- FUN! The FINAL performance will take place on Friday, June 28 in the Irving Robbins Middle School Auditorium. Opportunity for rising (7-12) graders: Students with a serious interest in the "behind-the-scenes" portion of theatre will work with mentors in the areas of stage management, directing, costumes, props, and set design. These students will not perform in the play but instead will be working backstage as part of the production. Students should bring a healthy snack, a healthy lunch, and a water bottle daily.   • Transition for Success (students entering Gr. 9)

    The purpose of the Transition for Success course is to assist students entering 9th grade in developing the tools necessary for positive academic, behavioral, and social/emotional success at Farmington High School. Students will engage in activities to jump-start their freshman year. They will learn about motivation and growth mindset, and they will set goals and organize themselves for a successful launch into 9th grade. Students will receive personalized instruction on the support available to them as students at FHS, including training on using the technologies utilized by FHS faculty and staff as tools for learning. Enrollment is on a space-available basis and open to any incoming FARMINGTON High School students entering grade 9 ONLY and will meet in-person at FHS.
